Reducing VIP Culture in India

While a submission was made last year on this subject, limited efforts have been put forth by the Government to reduce the VIP culture. With this post we would like to seek even more specific solution inputs from you that as common citizens, we would want the Central Government to implement. Please give as specific an input as possible.

We look forward to your inputs!

Reducing VIP Culture in India

1. Except for the President, Prime Minister, Governors and Chief Ministers of states, armed forces service chiefs, no one should be granted VIP status
2. The word VIP should be removed from tens of thousands entrances, doors, lounges and entry gates
3. Use of the red and blue beacons should be restricted
4. Roads should not be closed for more than 10 minutes for a VIP movement
5. The international travel plans of the VIPs should be scrutinized
6. Family members of VIPs should not be allowed on official tours with them
7. The VIP quota in Railways should be trimmed and should be usable only in case of emergency
8. Aircraft and train departures must never be delayed due to VIPs
9. The idolising of bureaucrats and ministers should be stopped
10. Government should not try to satisfy the ego of the VIPs by giving them these privileges; it should be based on needs
11. Some privileges should be withdrawn for the VIP culture to diminish
12. The darshan procedure at religious places should be equal for everyone
13. VIPs should not be considered to be above the law – they should be tried like a common man
14. No free frills for VIP. They should foot the bill and claim from the respective department, which should have the budget
15. The number of people getting Z level security should be reduced. more

Reducing VIP Culture in India: Every one will agree to the very first point as the ones that follow. Here we must not forget to add to the list the chief justices and some of the judges handling sensitive cases also. Their protection is also important for the nation. We have earned freedom from British through our forefathers with great difficulty and struggle for several years. Now we are happy to chose our own leaders in place of the British .Then why not enjoy the fruits of freedom ? The elected one were also ordinary citizens alike us under the British . Why do they need a sudden V.I.P. Treatment and position . We shouldn’t behave like bonded slaves to the very people whom we have elected . We have elected them to work for us not to hero worship or give undue obedience . And let them have some privileges on travel and certain comforts as we have elected them to work for us. But let us not step out of limit to extent of submitting our comforts , rights and resources. Now because of this VIP Culture their staff particularly the drivers like to enjoy even when the car comes empty on the roads . We have seen instances of family members resorting to atrocities. The traffic police should make a note of this and treat the drivers as well as the family members as any other citizens .Well let V.I.P.’s travel by a special class , but no need to extend the same facilities to the entourage and family members. It is absolutely ridiculous to have special and privileged entry for the so called V.I.P’s in to the Places of Worship. In front of The God all are equal ; is God going to give a special Dharshan or redemption for the so called V.I.P.’s ? Like to cite the example of the former Chief Minister Ooman Chandy whwo was sitting on the steps of the Church during the Easter service in Kerala. I am really happy about the move and my full support for this. All the very best. -- Jai Hind more
The very purpose of holding any post in the government or any public body is to elevate one's status. Then we start thinking that now we should not be questioned anywhere for our actions as we are above the general public. This feudalistic mindset needs change. To give a simple example; if one is local president or secretary of a small local body say tiny political party, he will replace the number plate of this car with the above designation " President ........@@@###" and roam about in the city without any check by any traffic police personal. For these type of persons it is clear that they can never do any good to the society because their objective is different from public service. I am not talking of bigger VIPs, it is a case of tiny VIPs. Bigger VIPs think they have it is their first right to use roads and infrastructure, let the public go to hell. more
VIP culture in our country is limited only to the politicians. You hardly come across any non-political personality being treated as VIP. What is the need? Only our country gives so much weightage and importance to politicians. Even a lowest level volunteer of any political party throws his weight around on one and all. Unfortunately, post independence, politicians are given highly undue importance they don't deserve. After all they are from within us as common as all of us. more
VIP quota in railways isn't only for the government officers, minister and doctors during emergency cases?? Might be the rules are not being followed properly. How advocates have missed this issue, without questioning for a long time??? VIP culture is introduced for getting income to the place they arrive. It could be temples, theaters, etc., Nowadays it has changed, which I heard from my grand parents. Family members expense should be separate and the VIP's in this case will be going for government work. Other VIP'S cannot be compelled to travel in VIP quota has we charge them for getting the facilities. more
