Removal of chains in trains, so that people do not pull chain at random
I would like to discuss the redundancy of chains in trains in this age of wireless telecommunication. They are a hazard to public safety as seen in Godhra train burning. People can give their views whether we should remove chains from the train and replace it with a guard in each bogey. more

On Surat station, many times I observed that passenger use chain while some of their relatives not aboard and train starts. This is happened normally in vacation period when whole family move. more

Chain pullers are rare, people who stop the train on their wish and will are the one who go to the place where bogie is coupled with another and they turn the lever and vacuum brakes apply. There should be such mechanism that people do not have access to that lever. more

From a technology point of view, I always wonder why the chain system has not been replaced by more maintainable and cost effective electronic or electrical system. Guard in each bogey? That does not seem efficient - both from cost as well as manpower utilization point of view. A two way audio communication that can be achieved at a reasonable cost can help. more
