Removing Senior Citizen Concession from 1st Class

Railways is very integral part of our life. In the last many years, due to whatsoever reasons, its financial health is not good. But just by depriving the senior citizens from getting the concession while travelling in 1st class, will the financial health improve very much. I don't suppose so. Here what is needed is an well informed decision, so that railways also do not suffer and our senior citizens also do not. In my opinion, presently the 1st class fares are quite high and almost at the same level of airfare if booked in 2-3 weeks advance. This is resulting in less occupancy of 1st class anyways. So what i request Mr Prabhu to look into is - you can introduce a system where you can black-out senior citizen concessions in 1st class during weekends and on holidays & holiday eves. This will help get full revenue bookings on this days. Allow senior citizen concessions on week days. This will help increase occupancy on the weekdays and generate revenue. Now you have SAP HANA for data analysis. You can do a micro level data analysis and plot the above suggestion and see the projections. i am sure, it will be beneficial to both railways and senior citizens. more

I agree with Mr.T V Subba Rao entirely. Many senior citizens travel in higher classes only because of concessions.Senior citizens are aged and many times physically unwell .therefore concessions for them must continue.Only wearer knows where shoe pinches.Hope mr. Anil Kumar and others like him understand the situation in case his parents, grandparents have to travel in higher classes without concessions.May be these people will understand better when they become aged or else they may be moneyed men. more
You're confusing sr. Citizens and poor. Will you call sr. Citizens in 2 AC poor? more
1. Senior Citizens are respected and concessions are given taking into consideration of their loss of regular income. Under Tatkal,Rlys already had removed concessions which is unfair and many people made representation to restore. 2. Cancellation charges even Waitlisted tkts is most unfair. Cancellation charges are too high. The proactive Rly Minister should look into the issues and extend the concession facility to Sr. Citizens & drop cancellation charges for WAITLISTED tkts. more
If any senior citizen travelling in 1st AC & 2nd AC how he is poor? I think all the concessions should be stopped by the Railway. In Garibrath, poor man cannot get reservation, only rich persons are travelling. more
