RESERVATION - CANCELLATION RULES

Recently IRCTC has revised the cancellation rules for reserved accommodation. If the ticket is cancelled after 4 hours of the scheduled departure of the train no refund is allowed. It asks for filing TDR before that that even if the passenger is unable to travel for any reason beyond his control, i.e., as many of our cities are getting road blocks every now and then, sometimes the passenger is not able to reach the station in time, but in that case, the Railways asks them to file the TDR earlier, which is not only not possible, but also unjustifiable. I request this forum to take up the matter in such a way that TDR filing time is at least kept open for the next 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the train. more

Mr. Krishnan - TDR is to be filled online in IRCTC site, which is easier. As this is window based operations, like booking tickets, I don't see any hitch here. In case, you are not clear, please clarify your position so that I am able to help you better. more
At the outset, there is no change in the rule of cancellation of confirmed railway ticket. Filing of TDR for a confirmed eticket must be made within 4 hours of the departure of the train, which is not a difficult task in the current scenario. Mr. Gupta needs to note that railways are not at a loss if a passenger does not board the train. After the start of the journey, TTE allots the seat/berth not occupied by the original passenger to RAC or WL passengers. So not to be concerned for that. Only original passenger will be at a loss if he does not cancel the tickets in time. more
AS per the present rules, the TDR is to be filed before 4 hours of the scheduled departure of the train and the question is how it is possible? more
It is anti consumer. The ministry of consumer affairs, can suomoto, take up this issue, with the RAILWAYS more
Demand of 24 hours is not logical. In this much time a person can travel and come back. Then files for TDR. How the possibility of such cases will be taken care of in the volume passengers, trains etc...... more
The demand is simply selfish -- you do not travel by being late, and you want your money back as well -- forgetting that some other passenger has lost his right of reservation due to your careless / callous approach. Railways have a potential for financial loss as well. Suggestion needs to be thrown into waste basket. At least I am not going to support such selfish and irresponsible suggestions. more
