Reservation System in India - Inputs on Issues

Dear Friends

Reservation in India is the process of setting aside a certain percentage of seats (vacancies) in government institutions for members of backward and under-represented communities (defined primarily by caste and tribe).

With this post, we would like to identify key issues with the existing Reservation System.

Once we know the Issue, we will review the Root Causes and Solutions through separate posts with a comprehensive whitepaper for the Government.

The objective of this discussion is not to recommend removal or reduction of reservation but rationalization of the system so the benefits of it reach the citizens and communities who really need it the most.

I look forward to your participation!

It is more for the benefits n advantage to politicians. They still want to continue reservation every mow n than adding more number of cast based reservation in the name Dalit.politicians do not want them to rise above cast. Such reservation should if really needed then at the entry level of education or job but thereafter it should not be extended till life time n for generations. We all c daily beyond sc/st, than obc, then, adivasi,n so on....now jats, patidars wants reservation. Even those who have taken benefits of reservation n become financially good conditions, having sufficient money, own home, etc their children's are still continue to get same advantage why? Some time back a debate was started to remove such creamy layer from the reservation list n quota . Due to the reasons known best by politicians that debate died untimely death. Shall we not have a state wide national consensus on this grave issue like election voting. Why govts shy to hold such public opinion , conducting nationwide by giving their views on a ballot paper. Before someone talking about reservations know this "what is it to be treated as an untouchable". None of u know how the mindset of those untouchable families and their thinking and their perception about ppl and about this country and their awareness about this country. R they living in some asylum? My answer is yes they live in an asylum called self-pity/embarrassment to say their cast, which is another identity in our great country India. Reservation means it's not about providing money for studies and job for living and whatever u might be thinking. But all these things needed the most for these reservation categorical ppl. Reservations for untouchables should be there to liberate them from untouchability and showing them the way to think and help them to understand the society, which all of u are so aware of. We r the reason for them to be like this we hated them so much because of their cast and may be because of their living style. We hated them even after the independence and we made them to realize that they r poor and treated them as a kachada(dirt), made them to realize that they r Kachada. Ha yes we don't accept that because we indians are hypocrites. To remove that incubation for their mind, It almost takes three generations to change the thinking of one untouchable person. more
Reservation should be only to provide better education to make them compete for jobs. Givng reservation in jobs is not a good sign. Its like giving alms. It brings in corruption also. Reservation should be on economic considerations and not by caste or community. Provide equal educational facilities to all. more
I strongly believe that reservation system should be completely out of the system. After 7 decades of getting independence, this is unbelievable that India still has reservation. I believe they are more than civilized now. I was a direct victim of this system while I was born and brought up in Shillong, Meghalaya. I have seen how the people out there were taking advantages of their grants, their opportunities etc. And my class mate who secured just overall 35% marks is now a doctor. And there are numerous incidents where we were forced to believe that we are not the preferred class. So, I fail to understand how long and why this reservation system should continue. Just for vote banking, we have been suffering and that is not right. Let them face the world from an equal platform and see who does what. That's all is needed. Thanks. more
