Railway Budget has been overall superb this year. Some points I would like to mention as below :
1) Reservation period of 120 days is not of any help to passengers.
2) Booking thro Agent should be abolished. When IRCTC has provided so huge facility of booking what for Agents? Except exploiting the passengers and making money, there is no use.
3) Irctc is doing outstanding jobs. As an immediate step, they should work to provide seat selection facility ,starting with 1AC/2AC/3AC and finally SL coaches.

Thanks to all. I would like to add 1) Basically, agents are required where there are lot of competition in the market and/ supply is much higher than demand. In the case of Railways the situation is not like this, rather it is other wise. So fundamentally and with the basic marketing principle, the necessity of agents does not justify. 2) Only reason may be to provide convenience of needy people. However, instead of convenience, it has become source of money collection and corruption and at the same time depriving the real and genuine needy passengers who can not meet the demand of the agents,specifically, during festival and summer vacation time. 3) If at all agents have to be there, railways and public both must ensure that agents charge their fee ONLY as prescribed by railways which does not seem to be possible for only one reason and that is Supply is much Less than Demand. more

railway has to reduce this period and keep only 30 days , through 120 days agents will promote and they will block the tickets , no one make the planning for four months. earlier also UPA govt did this and very fast changed this decision. more

एजेंट को पूरी तरह रोका नहीं जा सकता हाँ इसके बदले एक काम किया जा सकता है कि टिकेट पर आधार संख्या अनिवार्य कर दी जाय इससे केवल वही लोग टिकेट लेंगे जिहें जरूरत है. एजेंट फर्जी नामों से टिकेट नहीं बनवा सकेंगे. तभी सबको टिकेट उपलब्ध कराया जा सकता है. more

Me too agree. 60days advance window is ideal. Also irctc must stop charging cancellation fees on waitlisted tickets. Its un-ethical, makes no sense. Ladies above 30yrs age should get preference for middle/lower births. more
