Resource Wastage in Railways
1. The enquiry counters at the stations are underutilized
2. A lot of precious water is wasted on the platforms
3. A lot of people do not eat their food in trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi where the food cost is included in the ticket cost
4. Many lights are left switched on even during the day time when they are not required
5. A large area of railway land along the stations and tracks lies wasted
6. Tonnes of iron scrap lies wasted along the tracks across India
7. Multiple number of short-haul trains are operational instead of more double decker trains on those routes
8. Bed rolls are supplied to day travelers also, who do not require them
9. Train engines are kept running on stations even if the halt is for 30 minutes
10. The station staff does not care about the trains getting delayed
11. Waiting Rooms and retiring rooms can be money spinners if handled properly and attention paid to proper maintenance
12. Wrong placement of T .V. Sets on platforms resulting in over-crowding on platforms or under utilization
13. A very large number workers involved in the cleaning process are extremely inefficient
14. People are entering into the reservation coaches without reservation and there is no one to stop them from entering into the coach. This is a big loss of revenue
15. Old wagons lie in open yards and is exposed to theft of valuable parts
16. Railway factories are inefficiently run with obsolete machinery
17. Workers working in these factories are under trained
18. Most of the parking lots outside railway stations are poorly managed. more
