Many restaurants have started indulging in tax evasion by asking consumers to not take bill for a discounted price and consumers are agreeing. As a result they are evading gst basically. What is Govts plan to ensure such evasion post gst is kept in check? more
I do believe that it is the government's fault. In the U.S. there is a tax of only 5% on mostly all items. The customer has to pay it whether he likes it or not. Nobody defaults otherwise it is a ten year jail sentence. Why did the government have to put 18% GST on services and 28% on many items? It is a opportune moment to dissuade people from paying tax. Who wants to pay the government Rs.750/- for tax work with a tax consultant on a bill of Rs.4000/-? If the rates were reasonable, nobody would mind paying the taxes. more
The more is the tax structure, the more is the evasion. More is the evasion, the more is the level of corruption. When even the elections have requirement of black money, how could somebody claim I am the honest. Minimum Government and Maximum Governance was just a farce to play with the intellectual level of citizens and use emotional techniques. If I say Election 2014 have been the most corrupt I may not be wrong. The implementation of GST with 28% GST rate keeping petroleum products out of the purview of GST leads to believe corrupt practice by stating that the products would become cheaper undermining the intellectualizing of the citizens. more
It is not only in restaurants but also in other trades ,I know a famous shopkeeper dealing in Top brand of watches who was caught red handed by tax department and was taken to jail, but a lot of money exchanged between police,I tax and the matter went cold and the shopkeeper found this as an idea to know the way out starting doing the business more aggressively and now he has two shops instead of one. This is Life and only in India such prosperity prospers.A real shame. more
Have never seen a Heading "Government Charging Tax Exhorbitantly" or Government exploiting citizens with "Gangster Surcharge Tax" we just know how to shift the blame onto weaker people. The government is to blame for any tax evasion as this reflects lack of governance. more
I refer to some of the comments and sometime feel like to be silent as to how to respond does not get answered. It is agreed that when we are going out for dining, lets enjoy and forget GST, tax evasions etc. Well we should enjoy but are we feeling so handicapped that 545 MPs which we are electing can befool 125 crore citizens and we are helpless to take any corrective action. Should we not come back after enjoying dining out and raise the issue to the appropriate authorities. I still recall roll out of GST with much fanfare at the cost of tax payers money, the politicians were announcing that GST would bring down the cost of the living and shockingly our great PM announced that he had received a letter from a poor person thanking him for the roll out of GST. Is it only the traders responsible for tax evasions. Possibly "No". Earlier we were being befooled by the politicians as was quite evident during Election 2014, now the media has been added into that category which considers viewers as fool and can show whatever they want. By just sitting could we improve the system. It is also a fact that it may be the last generation which can still assert its presence else the coming generations would not and will not be able to speak up as the democratic system is already under threat. Lets continue our struggle against any wrong doing by remembering "God help those who help themselves" more
Now Mr Virmani I salute you for talking openly about this topic which I have been harping on all the time. 545 MPs have got together and have not only fooled 125 crore citizens but are also in violation of the law and should be dealt with just the way organised crime is dealt with. Its time we as citizens realised what needs to be taxed and what no and no government needs to demand us to pay tax on what we eat and what we wear as we use the money that we have earned after paying the appropriate Income Tax. These unjustifed taxes facilitate corruption extravagant lifestyle of these 545 MPs headed by the Prime Minister. Half of the country is in poverty with no basic infrastructure of lights electricity and water and these so called elected heads use our money to have the most extravagant life style ever! more
Well said Virmani ji. Media and political people know the theory of half glass water and half glass empty. They also know when to raise voice for half empty or half full. Because they know that the sheep follow blindly and easy to fool them. Will the sheep come to know this ? We are in CHALTA HAI culture. May be tomorrow will be brighter,Let us hope. more
545 MPs alongwith the PM are busy using the GST to tour the world as long as they are in power. This is just Gangster Surcharge Tax a Civil uprising is the only solution more
