Restoration of Service Charge for online ticketing

Railways seems to have decided to restore service charges from September 1 and the IRCTC will now levy a service charge of Rs 15 per ticket for non-AC classes and Rs 30 for AC classes, including first class, according to the August 30 order issued by IRCTC.

The service charges were withdrawn three years ago to promote digital payments but now applied again.

Would the minister and officers share why this change and are we turning our back on digital India.

If Govt sets such bad example, how do you expect industry to follow. more

The Railways started imposing the Services Charges for the tickets booked through IRCTC-Online with a VENGEANCE. These service charges are not levieud from the window booking tickets. This is very discriminatory and arbitrary. Collection of heavy user charges by the NDA Govt became a norm in any field. They stop the charges for a brief period and later on, will take with INTEREST. How the Railway Board or Railway Ministry justify the levy of service charges on internet tickets. For counter booking tickets, the Railways are deploying clerks for preparation of tickets, spending money on paper ticket, printers, using computers and internet, maintaining air-conditioned hall and buildings, tediously collecting the currency and painfully depositing the same in the Banks etc. At the counters, at times, there is a scuffle seen between the customers and counter staff. WHEREAS on internet transactions, the money is going directly to the bank account of IRCTC and no expenditure whatsoever. The railways wants to kill the Chicken than waiting for the eggs. Bad decisions and autocratic way of working. more

Railway only think of sucking the money of common citizen and middle class people by increasing fare or some times by fooling people in increasing cancellation charges or other mode but they will ever every bother to sell the railways scraps lying all over india in railways yard or rail occupied areas. Railway will provide the number facilities to their under performing employees including higher levels irrespective of their performance, competency and corruption. Railway will never bother to regularize inspection and checking of valid tickets from wait listed passengers occupying reserved compartments and penalize them as per railways rules. Railways will never bother to improve the facilities at railway platforms including rail premises and quality of food in non premium trains. Railway will never bother to remove useless and dump idea of dynamic fare system in premium trains because of which CAG has already thrashed rail way authority for the loss of revenues from premium trains. So people's mindset is same whenever railway is crying for scarcity of fund then government ask either to increase the fare or increase or implement other taxes and services fee just like they did now and it is continuous process which has no ending because railway and its authority do not have mind to think beyond of increasing revenues from increasing the rail fares. IT IS REALLY UNACCEPTABLE DECISION TAKEN BY RAILWAYS. more
I don't see any valid for restoring the levy of service charges by IRCTC. What is the additional services involved in this mode of payment. On the one side, PM is keen in encouraging digital payments, and on the other side withdrawing levies on digital payments. On top of it, banks levy a charge Rs. 10/- plus GST. I don't understand the reasons for these levies. Will PM intervene and restore to motivate citizens to go for digital payments. Local circle cal also take up the matter with the government/PM urgently for this purpose. more
Such a trend we are following since we got our own government 73 years ago. The government seems to be keen to levy additional burden in different names instead of any hike in the fare directly to avoid giving concession in the basic fare to different groups of people of the society. more
