Retail of international clothing merchandise

My brother in law in Oregon USA is looking at setting up a business that will procure readymade and discontinued clothing from US retailers at deep discounts and setting up stores in India for retail of these clothes. Eventually direct shipping will also be done as some of these garments are made in India. Please advise what are the things to watch out for and if there are any taxation loopholes? more

Check out first; with a good ad reputed, clearing and forwarding agent; and later with another down the line. Get a hold on the information offered by them and prepare your self accordingly. Mr. M S Dua also seems to be right in the direction of taking positive action. Your next step should be in the direction of preparing first; a network of different options to not only finance, insure, import, land, receive, handle, stock and repackage or not; the cargo; but also to offer it for retail selling; and later for finalizing and establishing terms for the purpose. more
there is no legal hassle, only that the well established brands may seek a ban on your sales, therefore ask your brother to obtain proper invoices with no objection to market these products as such.that is with brand nme, copy right violations some times are very expensive. lots of people are doing such business in India. In case your brother seeks to establish outlets in India, certain legal formalities are required which need to be complied with. more
But the problem is that he will not get the branded tags like Gap, Old Navy, Nautica etc here. His plan is to buy excess inventories of these companies.  On Thursday, 23 January 2014 11:05 AM, Salona Bhowmick wrote: more
Only a suggestion - importing clothes from USA is not going to be a profitable venture. Becos U.S. mainly imports apparels from India , Bangladesh, China etc. Why import something which has been exported from here first ? Why not manufacture American styles here and set up shop selling those ? more
