Retinopathy of Prematurity
My son is suffering from colobama in right eye and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in left eye. He was operated for two holes in left eye by Dr.Promod Bhende ,Shankar Nethralaya,Chennai. In this hospital which is run by trust , lot of such patients visit and return with satisfaction. The treatment and behavior of staff is uniform for all patients irrespective of their financial or social status. Hospital is getting lot of donations and equipment from Corporate houses, Indians and NRIs . Now a days Retina related problems are increasing for all the ages and Retinal eye problems to children is greatest problem which is some time can not be treated at all. Apart from kidney malfunction and acute cancer treat for all problems is possible. But retina can not be transplanted also. Delhi being capital of India, needs such facility with human touch. All the pediatric retina surgeons of Delhi must introspect themselves and should establish another shankar Nethralaya in Delhi. Dear Akhil Bansal ji...we are still waiting for ethical approval for our trial at Fortis Gurgaon but the U.S. results have been published and the treatment should become available commercially within next year. Will keep this group informed. As I suggested, if there is enough interest in setting-up a not-for-profit eye Institute in Delhi/NCR then the core group should get together & at least register a legal entity. We can then raise funds from various potential sources. Fortis may also be willing to be part of the venture. more
