You need to invest atleast 50% of your saving in Equity funds. blance can be done in PPF / NPS. After say 10 years ( 8 years before your retirement you may shift through SWP your investments to high risk equity to balanced funds. more
One important point to keep in mind is that your retirement corpus should get enough returns to beat inflation over the years. NPS as an option is neither tax efficient or helps you beat inflation. You can read more through the following link: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/wealth/invest/why-investing-in-nps-is-like-putting-your-money-in-jail-for-life-view/articleshow/61289256.cms?edition=718 Given your age, I would suggest you should invest 30-40% of your saving in high risk (depending on your risk appetite) instruments such as equities or equity based mutual funds (SIP route). more
I think AVB Group can float a retirement plan for all Senior Citizens. more
Retirement planning can be done through PPF; NPS and mutual fund. NPS is similar to mutual fund. NPS has 2 types of accounts 1. Tier I which is compulsory and Tier II is optional. Tier I fund can be withdrawn only attaining age 60 and the 60% fund is to be compulsorily invested in pension fund. Tier II can be operated just as any other mutual fund scheme. Money can also be accumulated through SIP and on retirement withdrawn through SWP (Mutual fund) All withdrawals after one year are tax free (as on date). There is also not capital gains tax and exit load after one year. One can choose either multi cap or Balanced funds ( Medium risk) investors. more
Looking at your time horizon you can invest the money through SIP route in a combination of Large Cap / Small & Mid Cap with the help of an advisor and buy a term plan for yourself as well. you can sit again when you are 55 years of age and rebalance the portfolio to achieve the desired results more
