Right to Repair framework

The Govt i believe post awareness by various circles has agreed to create a framework for Right to Repair. However as usual ministries will lack understanding.

And the below LocalCircles survey rightly covers gadgets and whitegoods but then there are other sectors like car or vehicle servicing and even agricultural equipment like tractors.

Can LocalCircles please conduct detailed consultations for framework for all the sectors? more

This has come a complete circle, wherein earlier, say about over 40 years back, one would repair gadgets and only replace them with technological obsolescence! Replacement fed on mass production and consumption, along with quick improvements in technology has led to replacement becoming the norm. Environment becomes the third factor, wherein replaced products, with a lot of plastic end up in landfills as junk. Replace preferably when you the donate the device, or white good away for reuse by someone a first time user, thereof, mostly one who is poor. For saving environment, we must repair, extending the product life optimally. Can't expect a sustainable living conditions when economy gets geared towards replacement. Environmentally speaking, what you save, saves you! more
I feel the problem lies in the fact that no manufacturer provides for Annual Service or Maintenance Contracts for their equipment beyond 3 years at the most. if this is increased to 5-6 years the problems would be less. No doubt everyone would be prepared to pay for the extended AMC. more
The framework has to be given to a technocrat who knows the nuances of it and then get it vetted by the law dept also so that consumer gets the upper hand and also the framing people should not get influenced by MNC companies who will want to twist the wordings to their benefit so that it suits them so ideally they need to have a person/team who will not get influenced by these MNC's more
