RIGHT WAYS TO IMPROVE THE OPERATION RATIO AND GIVE RELIEF FOR THE PASSENGERS :

Currently, the national transporter has set a record-high operating ratio of 117.31% – which means it spent Rs 117.31 to generate every Rs 100. It is not good going for the Railways with a heritage of over 165 years of Service to the Nation, and experience employing 13,00,000 workers . Unless the steps taken are retrograde the Operation Ratio will not go from bad to worse. There have been so many valuable suggestions in the Circle from Professionals and experience travelers. A few such from the circle to arrest the retrograde steps for example ,

* Stop/Curtail / Modify the Freebees in the form of Free Pass

* Stop completely the British Babu's Orderly system of deputing Gang men paid by Railways, to the homes of Rail big wigs .

* Introduce only trains that will fetch Revenue and not to satisfy the Minister or M.P.or M.L.A. ,

* Share the Goal with the last Grade workers .
THESE STEPS HAVE TO BE TAKEN BOLDLY , ONLY THEN THE SOFT TARGET , THE PASSENGERS / CUSTOMERS WILL BE SAVED FROM GETTING EXPLOITED by the following unethical back door methods that put the public into trouble.

# Unethical increases in the name of FLEXI FARES - Recently the Railways had removed the flexi fare system in 15 Trains.Removed for want of occupancy ,the 15 trains were running only at 45 % Occupancy.Yet there are 105 Trains , where the Flexi fare is going on as those Trains are Milch cows with high yield - it is a blunder done in haste by the Railways to have introduced these 15 Trains without proper study . These 15 trains were running in loss for around 2 years .

# The sudden increase in Cancellation fees as shown in the attachment . When you take a look at it , it is evident that the cancellation tariff is nothing but Day light robbery after allowing the Customers to book 120 days ahead and giving a Wait Listed R.A.C. ticket . - IT IS NOTHING BUT PINCHING THE BABY AND ROCKING THE CRADLE.

# The worst is advising "Book Now" - even the Wait Listed Tickets , collect the fare and keep the Customer guessing for whatever time the Railways feels , and confirmation accorded very close to the Travel date or even on the date - this is not at all fair towards the Customers .
WHY NOT RAILWAYS HEED TO THE SUGGESTIONS FROM THE CUSTOMERS PARTICULARLY WHEN IT IS PINCHING THEIR PURSE AND HITTING BELOW THE BELT . more

The First things is to remove the concessional fair to Sr, Citizens , Employee or Ex employee, MP , their Spoons , . The wealthy Sr. Citizens do not required any concessions. Peoples are drawing Rs. 30- 40 K pension are not required concession. The Concession only Granted to Poor Peoples who are having Income less than rs. 20,000 /00 monthly. students of these parents. This will increase the income . Cancellation & serverations charges are O.K. No refund on Tatkal Cancellations. Passenger train fare should be Rs. .90 paise / KM & mail express should be Rs. 1.10 to 1.20 /KM . It will increase the Revenue. Make ticket Checking stricter as I seen in North & east region peoples take passenger ticket & travelled in superfast train. It is loss of revenue. more
Improving the efficiency of running status of trains, selling of scraps from yard all over india, stop giving quota and discount for the rail employees whether higher post or lower post because now people can afford sleeper class reservation and that if he/she is an earning person having a job of central government. Making solar train running by solar systems, implementing high rates of penalties for the people destroying railways property violating railway laws and rules, Heavy fine for those who found with general class ticket and travelling in reserved coaches. Giving all the empty spaces nearby railway zone all over india for vending purpose through e-tendering method. Termination from employment for the railway employees if they found in corrupt practices and demotion to those who are incompetent. The above points are shared just in order for increasing the railway revenue instead of increasing ticket fare every time more
Social and business can not go together. This is the story of practically all Govt enterprises.Unless these are separated they can not make profit. more
Complete stoppage of free pass to the staff may not be possible but certainly there are scopes for curtailment/modification of the system. Decision to introduce the system of flexi-fare in railways was not wise one. Instead, the railways should have ensured 100% occupation in each train by improving timeliness and passengers' amenities. Flexi-fare system should immediately be abolished in all trains. Allowing reservation 120 days ahead of the journey date was another immatured decision widening the scope for black marketing of tickets by the touts. Its not clear as to why the railways is shying to revert back to earlier 60 days. Even if the period is reduced to 30 days, the passengers should not have any difficulties in securing their reservations. The prices for MST tickets are also unreasonably low. An upward revision thereof in consonant with the operating cost could bring down the loss. Since more than 90% of the seats/berths in other than fully AC trains pertain to Sleeper Class, the railways should completely revamp these coaches providing maximum amenities and ensuring cleanliness to make journey even in sleeper class comfortable and accordingly make upward revision of fares, which are presently much below operational cost. There is little scope of increase in AC class fares, as various domestic airlines are offering cheaper tickets, which are even cheaper than rail tickets in various routs in addition to better amenities & time effectiveness. more
I agree with the points mentioned. Out of all the points mentioned, reducing advance booking time from 4 months to 2 and updating wait list instantly will go a long way in earning passenger goodwill and thus reducing losses. more
