I have seen the recent budget of Maharashtra. Most of the benefits are for Farmers. Are we asking any thing in Return? Farmers must be answerable for the rise in prices of Agri Products including Vegetables. more
Major seasonal spikes every year affect consumers. Some of these spikes are unexplained as prices can change 3 to 4x or more in a matter of days. There seems to be some major speculative activity in vegetable markets several months in a year by the trading community. The farmers continue to suffer despite steep price hikes and the consumer makes the middle-men rich. The politicians and government don't care. They may as well hike fuel and other prices just when all this is happening. The problems are well-known, and the solutions are also well-known but no one will implement them. Areas of continued concern: 1. Storage facilities near distribution centres 2. Distribution and logistics 3. Elimination of multiple tiers of middle-men 4. Devise farm-to-consumer modes 5. The government must supplement real shortages through proactive action 6. Promoting alternatives 7. Having an advance warning mechanism in place to contain excessive demand 8. Curbing black-marketing This has to be something where the state has to be the prime mover and take initiative in each district through the district commissioner's office etc. The cooperative movement must be promoted in such sectors in a big way and keep big business away. more
Elections are over. Plenty of money have been donated. Now time they are recovering. The government does not care. more

All the people who raise issues and those who keep criticising the Government will do well to provide solutions rather than keep writing. If you have found a problem, do try and suggest a solution. more
