ROOT CAUSE FOR THE EXORBITTENT / JACKED UP PRICES OF PHARMA & ALLIED PRODUCTS :

In pharma business there are 4 Actors involved actively . The manufacturer , The Government , the Prescribing Doctors and the consumer - the Patient .They occupy the 4 corners of the Rhombus . All 4 should have their powers in the fixation of the prices of pharma Products . But it not so . The consumer is left in the lurch and has no say at all about the prices of products .
ONE MANUFACTURES WITHOUT ANY CONTROL FROM THE SECOND , THE THIRD PRESCRIBES THE PRODUCT THAT FETCHES INDUCEMENTS / INCENTIVES . IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE 3 HAVE GANGED UP TP TO STRANGLE / STIFLE THE GULLIBLE ONE .

All that the patient for whom all these products are Manufactured , wants to know is - How is there such a huge price difference for the same component and strength of the medicine from different companies ? - DOES IT MEAN THAT COSTLIER PRODUCT GIVE BETTER RESULTS ?

Who has the control in fixing prices of Pharma Prices ? - The four corners depict 4 different characters . The consumer is the one who pays for the medicine . The patient is the only one among the 4 who doesn't have any say in the matter of Price fixation .

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PRICE FIXATION RESTS WITH THE REST 3 .
ONE IS SUPPOSED TO WORK FOR PROFIT MAKING , BUT TURNS INTO PROFITEERING .
THE OTHER NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PROFESSIONAL EARNING TENDS TO BE GREEDY .
THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE WITH AUTHORITY AND SUPPOSED TO SERVE THE SUBJECTS CLOSES THE EYE AS LONG AS ITS COFFERS ARE FILLED .

Unless there is a clear responsible direction India will take a long time to Transform if at all there is a genuine mind .

While fixing MRP Govt rep should have a say. more
It is a huge problem. Solutions are not easy. A very high level analysis and policy making body needs to formed. Actually similar problem exists in every walk of life. Of course, when it comes to pharmaceuticals ethical considerations too need to come into picture. Hope the government has the will and power to come into action in this regard. more
All most all the posts have the common opinion that the Patient , the helpless end consumer bears the brunt of the attack. In this situation where is the patient to go , if all the other 3 join together . At least one of the 3 have some sort of compassion towards patients it will be solace . But this can be controlled by one the most powerful if it has the mind and intention . This was done way back in the 70's when the Drug Price Control Order was imposed by Late P.M. and medicines were within reach . But the subsequent Governments didn't bother to continue till date . more
Yes, you are correct. there should be a pricing mechanism. more
Solution lay in removing the extreme capitalist economy to mixed economy that we had before 1991. That is the only solution. more
