Root causes of corruption

I think here we should start with poverty, over population and finally concentration of power and money in the hands of a few. But since our system and culture has bred these issues for long, eradication of poverty and curbing of population growth will take long, slow and gradual course. What is most important in the meantime is that we keep to a certain policy towards these goals and not move away, which we often have done. What happens with the change in government is that the ruling party changes. But the office personnel, the executives, remain functioning in the same way and corruption remains. One needs to be ever vigilant with administrative cadre, who, often in the name of ruling parties, continue to reap profits, carry out nepotism in appointments and distributing government favours. In general they keep the administration in the same, age-old path of rank corruption and ineffective administration. This happens at state and central levels. It is not only the onus of the new government to change things, peoples and systems. It is for us, the people also - to try and educate at least the younger generations, to make them realise that honesty, dedication and hard work will benefit them and the country in the long run. Instead, the current system teaches them to rely on short cuts, easy ways to riches and fame. We, the seniors as role models, guide them towards this path of shallow, corrupt lifestyle with utter disregard for other people's interests. Thus, I feel that it is primarily at the executive level and at the level of education that little changes should begin. The target areas should be those that are of most immediate concern like employment, application of law and order, judiciary, awareness programmes within primary and secondary education, government service sectors, etc. Only in these smaller but steady and resolute steps can we make some headway towards bigger changes in a gradual manner. more

What Mr Nupur Dasgupta is saying is absolutely correct... In India we first need to handle overpopulation, then poverty, then power and money in the hands of a few.... Campaigns for birth control should be done, then check wastage of food grains at every area, then power how to handle this.. All intelligent people need to unite and come forward for a Shreshta Bharat more
we need good public grievance redressal system, active, easily accessible, effective, no complaint pending more than one month - either act or say that you are incapable to act - alternate way need to be advised.. than only corruption can be brought done.. Corruption is mainly because of no answer-ability and no action...need strong government to improve these aspects.. more
Agree to all the comments by many posts.agree to the income tax slabs, simplifying the tax structure, less compliances to several departments, different types of multiple taxes, end all this and relieve the honest businessman . In return the honest busineeman and others will also try to declare and pay highest taxes. Which will fill the govt exchequer with more money. Remove the headaches and collect more taxes. The honest business is always ready to pay much to our great nation. more
Mindset has to change from top to bottom in the Government as corruption has become an accepted part of life in India. Apart from ensuring fast track judgments as well as exemplary punishments in cases related to corruption, it is essential that top priority is given to training of leaders in ethics & value based management. The leaders & managers can ensure corruption -free working by the people under their control. The most corrupt departments like Revenue, Excise, Customs, Income Tax, PWD, Roads & Buildings, etc must be tackled first. The children & youth must be educated about the evils of corruption and the importance of ethics & values for happy life. more
A NEW VISION & STRATEGY TO MAKE OUR INDIA THE RICHEST, MOST POWERFUL & BEST WELFARE NATION: INDIA NEEDS NOW AN IMMEDIATE LEADERSHIP, SYSTEM & PARADIGM CHANGES BY AN ALLIANCE OF THE GOOD AGAINST EVIL. It must result in a 100% democratic, credible, dynamic, proactive & interactive ruling group. We need a thorough metamorhosis & complete makeover to bid goodbye to the murky JOKEPAL past & present & welcome a glorious future. Only an entirely new breed of good, honest, enlightened, modern & progressive politicians, totally committed to the nation & its citizens & equipped with an adequate agenda, can give our Grand Indian Dreams an entirely different & good direction, dimension, quality, content & impetus & also lead us firmly into the 21st century. All good Indians must now enter politics & unseat the criminal ones in it today. A national & international talent hunt is needed here. The new leaders must change the present primitive, anachronistic, completely hollow & hero-based JOKEPAL politics to a serious, modern, ideology, objective, value, principle & agenda-based one. A clear premium must be placed on all real merits, honesty, integrity & patriotism to engineer a reverse brain & resource drain & signal a necessary moral rearmament, complete & thorough leadership, system & paradigm changes. The present manipulated,100% unHindu & anti-Hindu caste system created by our JOKEPAL politicians 1947-2014, must be abolished forthwith. A holistic & scientific national agenda for progress & welfare based on the superb Swedish model ought to be made our sole guiding star. INDIA FIRST ALWAYS, WELFARE TO ALL & PRIVILEGES TO NONE, FROM ALL ACCORDING TO ABILITY & TO ALL ACCORDING TO NECESSITY MUST BECOME OUR NEW NATIONAL MOTTOS. By rewriting the outdated Indian Constitution,100% accountability & transparency must be ensured & power decentralized & shared. All our corrupted & destroyed systems, incl the 4 pillars of our democracy, must be saved & put in foolproof working condition. All dynasties ought to be exterminated & all other main problems identified & solved. We need a new foreign policy, join NATO - our natural allies - procure new, good & powerful friends & a permanent seat in UNSC. We must engineer a polarization between the good & evil & annihilate the latter. It must undo all the harm done to India & Indians by our totally corrupt, criminal, completely useless, anti-Indian & anti-India politicians 1947-2014. FOR THAT VITAL MISSION, IT MUST CAPTURE FULL POWER AT THE CENTRE & IN THE STATES ASAP. IT MUST START BY JAILING ALL THE CORRUPT & RETRIEVING THE TRILLIONS THEY'VE LOOTED & STASHED AWAY AT HOME & ABROAD. IT MUST BE INVESTED INSTANTLY IN POVERTY & ILLITERACY ELIMINATION, EMPLOYMENT, WELFARE, INFRASTRUCTURE INCL IT IN GENERAL & ELECTRICITY, CLEAN WATER & OTHER ESSENTIAL SERVICES TO ALL IN PARTICULAR & PUT INDIA ON TRACK. LET'S THUS GIVE EACH & EVERY INDIAN A BRAND NEW FAIR DEAL & LIFE! AFTER THAT V MUST SAVE THE REST OF THE WORLD, TOO! more
