Safety/Liability of Bank Lockers: Consumer Inputs
1. Banks should be held responsible for the safety of the lockers, otherwise the whole purpose of using the locker will be defeated
2. The bank charges the customer not just for the space but also for security of the valuables
3. RBI should clarify this point and should advise means how the Locker holder can take protection against unexpected loss due to any kind of mishap
4. The agreement clauses while opting for the locker should be clearly explained to the customer
5. An optional insurance scheme should be made available to bank locker customers who want to use it
6. Banks should ensure that the lockers are properly secured inside the bank’s strong room which is built to very stringent specifications
7. High quality Standards for safe deposit lockers must be developed and implemented by banks and all branches/setups who can’t should be made to discontinue the locker service. more
