Safety of Powdered Infant Formula
According to WHO, powdered infant formula is not a sterile product and may be contaminated with pathogens that can cause serious illness. Correct preparation and handling of PIF reduces the risk of illness. (http://www.who.int/foodsafety/publications/micro/pif_guidelines.pdf )
Presently, labels of infant formula in India do not carry information about the product not being sterile though many countries, like UK have already made it mandatory to add such warning to the labels of infant powdered formula. Authorities in India should also take note of this issue.
