Yes shopkeepers are selling the items with some freebies.Govt has to declare any consumable unusable 2 months before its expiry. more
The Food Safety Officers are not checking and initiating action on those selling time expired foodies. Labour Inspectors do not care to search and seize the packed products which are time expired and packed violating rules. This emboldens the retailers and consumers are at their mercy. If consumers start complaining and fighting there will be no time for them to attend other functions .I suggest that the authorities concerned should excercise their duties promptly and help the consumers. more
It is terribly wrong on the part of Retailers/ Chemists or anyone to sell items perishable & other items with nearing expiry or after expiry date. I have seen pickle bottles, bread, milk, curd & other items mentioned above with expiry date over the shelf. This happens because it is India, because it is Bangalore as I live & experience it here. The local Govt agencies who are supposed to check & put a stop to this don't do this. Retailers don't manage this area of expiry date well. Having said that I personally bring it to the notice of the retailer when ever I come across expired item on the shelf. Also I highlight this in my group mail where I have 600 flats so that people become aware of this.I as an individual take care of myself & my community where I live. It's the govt body who has to enforce some stringent law & put heavy penalty. Supervisors / inspectors who are supposed to do surprise check should be monitored, are they doing their job the way it has to be done? There is so much of corruption here! And we as consumers should be vigilant about this expiry date. How many consumers do really check the expiry date of what they purchase? If each of us are vigilant & refuse to buy the expired or near expiring date products the retailer will take extra effort to mange to give the consumers fresh product. To get a fresh product in our system & with our population every one of us should participate in this process of buying & selling. more
Mr Purushottam's idea is undoubtedly good. But how many of us take receipt for every thing of daily use like bread etc. Many times Expiry date is stamped in such a way that even if we struggle to figure it out. We need to be watchful and read expiry date before buying. But about those poor people who can't read it.The date is also printed in English making it more difficult for poor village or slum people more
