It is surprising that SBI the biggest bank is following unethical practices in the matter of maintaining minimum balance as under: 1. no communication about maintaining minimum balance sent to accountholders. 2. Customer should be given an opportunity to close the account without any penalty if they want to close the acoount due to MAB/ revision in other charges like ATM withdrawal etc.. 4. No other nationalised bank has raised the MAB. 5. Account no . mobility be started immediately to make the competition among the banks. At present , if a customer wants to change the account, he has change it at many places/organisation, which again is a hinderance in changing a bank more
I think Banks like HDFC and ICICI has a rule of keeping minimum balance of Rs 10000/-.From this SBI has made a rule of keeping minimum balance of Rs 5000/-. more
Banks like HDFC ICICI AXIS etc are doing Class banking. SBI should neither follow them nor forget that they are doing Mass banking. more
but if it is salary account you get some waivers and benefits more

The recent steps taken by banks are retrograde and reversing all efforts made for digital payments etc. It seems all banks, government & RBI are taking people for granted and rewarding for their patience during demonetization Banks shall not be permitted to charge customers as they are not doing any service, but they are doing business with customers’ money. The current steps of limiting deposits and withdrawal through Banks or ATMs will make people to draw more cash and use it, which goes against digital payment system or the Govt. policy of less cash circulation. Since debit / credit card usage attracts charges at merchant points, people prefer pay in cash and cash will be more in circulation defeating total purpose. All agencies are causing inconvenience to public, without improving their systems. Why customer has to pay charges for additional usage, are banks not benefitted by installation of ATMS. No security, No cleaning at ATMS, no indication of No money at ATM, then why service charges for it. How much physical activity has been reduced at banks after installation of ATMs and still they want to penalize customers, who are running between one to another for money. Who reimburse such customers for fuel charges and pains? Banks instead of troubling genuine middle and low economy customers, better focus on recovery of mounting debts and realize from NPAs. It is worth for their efforts than chasing these small customers. Further, while banks are readily charge customers for not having minimum balance, more withdrawals etc., what kind of penalties can be imposed on banks for their disservice to customers for not having money in ATMs and banks? When a customer wants to draw Rs.20,000/- the dispenser has only Rs.100/- notes forcing customer to draw 5 times and thereby crossing the limits. How this kind of issues can be rectified and who owns responsibility, really a million dollar question. Could not understand why RBI, Finance Ministry or Consumer Ministry are not bothered when these activities are going against the well stated and publicized govt. policies such as Digital economy, Jandhan bank accounts (Make banking for every Indian) etc. The statement of State Bank of India’s Chairman that they are charging to absorb expenses of JANDHAN accounts cannot be accepted. If banks, government etc., would like to enjoy public plight, sooner they face different face of public. more
Charges are very high for a poor country like India. There are some cases where a person has monthly income less than Rs. 5000, then how can such person maintain balance of Rs. 5000 in a Metro City.
Previously accounts were continued even with ZERO Balance and immediately customers were forced to maintain higher balance.
There is opinion that Bank is increasing its through such poor persons. more
The trust of clints are lost. The Union is dominating. They want to make money in various ways. To them 5000Rs./ min balance is justifiable as value of money is eroded. so the only recourse is to plead for minimum balance of Rs. 500/-. It may be noted, debit card holders are to keep balance to operate it and use it. The credit card holders do not need this a/c at all. Then except for depositing and withdrawal alone the a/c is needed. So they are cleverly acting to fleece the clients. wake up and act all. more
Today I checked my accounts and both havebeen charged MAB penalty though I have more than 5000 in each account. They do not know why I am charged. Niw I have to apply for refund!
