Second Class Sitting Vs General Compartment
I have used the Second Class Sitting facility in most of the trains in South India and the condition is the same. Though these are expected to be reserved compartments, we have people with general tickets entering the occupying even the walk way in these compartments. It's so damn difficult to just walk up to the rest room with people sitting all around and all sorts of vendors selling different things inside the compartments. The price difference is hardly 15-20 rupees between the general and sitting rates which is quite affordable for most percentage of people. However, people are reluctant to pay it or prefer travel without tickets. I have hardly seen any TTR as well reacting against these people. The rates in these trains are quite affordable for any section of the society. So, I don't think we should be act soft against anybody for that matter.
When can we formalize these? India is already lagging behind by many years with respect to others countries. We need to start changing the mindset of people with strict rules & regulations. The concerned authorities should come forward to ensure this this being implemented. more

South or North, Indians are Indians only and their habits seldom change! It is mainly due to the corrupt Railway employees, especiallly the TTEs that general ticket passengers dare to enter the reserved coaches. I have seen that where TTEs are closely supervising and checking the passengers during the train journey, as is generally observed in the State of Kerala, passengers are afraid of venturing to enter the reserved compartments. more

1. sleeper class coaches are treated like general compartments by people in most of the trains. I frequently travel in trains and found that in the absence of police personnel TTE found themselves helpless most of the day time travel. And I observed that railway police is always a mute spectator in trains. They never bother about happenings in the train coaches and unauthorized passengers in sleeper coaches. And that is why the tendency to travel in sleeper class with general ticket is increasing. 2. Group of young boys harassing single female passenger in trains sleeper coaches has become a conman phenomena. Because anybody can walk free in reserved sleeper class coach. Journeying single young female passenger in Indian trains has become a nightmare experience. And it is a reality which I have seen many times. I will request Indian Railways through this forum and also to the people who read this to make a strong plea to railways to make train journey safer to women passangers. more

Let the fare be increased marginally, but the quality of service in trains should improve. more
