India has millions of poor hawkers who earn less than Rs100/day. They have no ready access to electricity and have to depend on polluting or jugaadu sources of energy for lightIng. Most pay heavy rentals for 4-6 hours of usage every day. They can’t break the cycle of poverty because they can’t take advantage of the productive uses of energy. Through a for profit business plan 'LALTEN' we propose to bridge this gap by providing a powerful , energy efficient ,environment friendly LED based Solar lighting kit on a nominal lease cum rental basis . This will offer them an opportunity for ownership of their energy resource and break their dependence on unhealthy, and inefficient sources of light .
Access to energy is essential for a poor family’s livelihood, health, safety, education and quality of life.Our solar based powerful LED lighting kits will enable the poor hawkers to work for extended hours to supplement their income .This in turn will enable them to afford a small lighting system the cost of which they could pay over time, in small, user-defined instalments.
