Selective condolence by Tamil Nadu politicians

It is extremely sad that an innocent fisherman was shot dead when he went for fishing in India Sri Lanka water.

Politicians from different political parties rushed to meet the victim's family and convey their condolence.

At the same time, one cannot miss the fact that these politicians have not cared to visit the houses of poor people who lost their lives in the last few weeks due to jallikattu. Some of these men are only onlookers.

Valuable lives of poor people are being lost due to accidents in fireworks factories in Sivakasi region at regular intervals. Rarely we see politicians calling on these poor families of the victims to condole the death.

It appears that politicians look for political benefits in such incidents and therefore , the condolence are selective.

Sir, Politicising a issue of death is wrong, but at the same time, we should under stand that if a citizen of Israel killed, that nation giving immediate repulse on the incident. But In our country Mr.Modi also told don't say tami fisher men say indian fishermen, but a small island nation brutally attacking unarmed civilians of our nation having send largest defence force in the universe acting as a spectator. Why don't indian Navy deploy a war ship to monitor the violation both Indian and other foreign fishermen or other. more
I agree with Mr Vijaykumar If we really wanted to have a simillar situation as suggested by Ms Kalavathi, we need to sacrifice some of our freedom, especially that of our freedom of speach, writing nd that of freedom of press If we are ready to accept a situation like that of Demontization activities where we were forced by Mr Modi to surrender our hard earned money (many of us are still honest, citizens) and beg for a single rupee. It still continues and wll continue for some more time If we are ready to accept a leaer like Ms Indira or Jaya or for that matter a Modi - all having a dictatorial mentality in implementing tthat they feel is right If we are not, simply enjoy what happens here We still appreciate a person who violates a law and fight for what he feels as right (whether it is a fight against the Britishers or Indira, Jaya or against Modi) India is not ruled by Indians alone We are governed by all the world powers which can not accept another country like India to emerge as a world leader So there will be disturbance in many ways for a normal life Added to that the political parties which were not even able to get deposit in an election They will see to that these disturbances will will and must coninue for their survival For the press and media it is business Do not discount the self styled NGOs and other outfits, iyakkams etc. more
In the Pacific island of Pulau, the President has banned fishing and export of shark fins to Japan even though it was a traditional occupation. This was because the overfishing was depleting the environmental resources and threatening the people's way of life. Instead he has ensured the creation of a Nature Reserve that has yielded a new occupation of tourism to the people and the traditional fisherfolk. I had suggested to the Govt. of India that if Pulau could implement this in the interest of Nature Conservation, a praiseworthy Karmic pursuit, why not the fisherfolk of India and Sri Lanka form a cooperative enterprise and refrain from fishing in the Palk Straits creating instead a Nature Reserve therein for tourists. The GOI sent the suggestion to the Department of Fisheries of the Tamilnadu Government who recommended closure of the matter since fishing is the only occupation of the fisherfolk and there is no other occupation possible for them. We however know from our experience after the Tsunami that many traditional fisherfolk themselves wished their children to have different occupations. Looks like our government representatives cannot appreciate out of the box thinking/suggestions. L.Kalavathi Retired Bank Official Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. Former Vice-President of Pennurimai Iyakkam which was active in securing the return of catamarans seized by the Corporation of Madras from the traditional fisherfolk in the name of city beautification.(Shri Malaiswamy Retd.IAS was then the Corporation Commissioner.) 13/03/2017 more
Some of these never-ending problems of TN have been created by earlier rulers, who have looked after only their own shelfish interests. It is time the people are made aware of how they were fooled. Agitations have become the favorite pastime of the people of this State whether genuine or not. Where there is agitation, our greedy and nuisance News Channels, in a spirit of one-upmanship give unwanted coverage & contribute to the emotional upraising in the minds of gullible people. Responsibility and Accountability are the unfortunate victims!!! more
Fishing in troubled waters! and we know the political class. and their coteries. When tragedy lands on anyone, moral/physical and monetary help will go a long way in helping the victims and their near and dear. Let the needy in all fields get the attention and the agony and pain reduced by philanthrophits - without any motive. In oldern days we have heard of such instances. The govenment can do a lot in this direction and advice the village headman and the DMO etc. to work in this direction. more
