SENIOR CITIZEN CONCESSION - PROPOSAL

Sr. Citizens like me use social media to express my views and grievances. During the working period have contributed to the Taxes. Today we don't have Pensions since most of us are in private sector and the EPFO gives a pension of RS.1450 per month. We dont have other sources of extra money other than our savings. During last FY ending March 23, Govt could save paltry sum of over Rs.2000 crores on account of disallowing Sr Citizen concessions. MGNREGA alone is spending over Rs.1 lac crores and hardly any assets are being created in the social sector. Though not making a comparison, Govt should not only restore Sr Citizen concessions in Railways, but also in Roadways and Airways. Similarly they should also be considered eligible in various social schemes by Central & state Govts. While inflation is every year phenomenon, the savings and resources of Sr citizens are limited and fixed. more

I appreciate Mr. Garg bringing out the statistic part and the count of Senior Citizens to 13 Crores. And very well connected it to 13 Crore votes, and their abipity to influence their family and friends. This aspect can influence a lot. This will not be considered as "Revdi Culture" by Hon'ble P.M any more. In Karnataka, a slew of Give aways were announced before the election. Notable among were BJP promises freebies including cooking gas cylinders & milk in manifesto, pledges to implement Uniform Civil Code. After the Karnataka Election Debacle, we may get announcement for a few of the "Freebies" (revdi culture) during the run upto the the Lok sabha Elections :The Senior Citizen Concession will be restored, Gas Cylinder prices could be slashed among others. Jai hind. more
This is not the first time the issue of Senior Citizen Concession is rail travel appearedin Local Circles. Several times by several people the issue had come to the fore. This post is with a difference where all the responses are suppoortive of the CConcession. Earlier times when this concession was withdrawn, we had some people supportive of the withdrawal mentioning about the modernization and infra structre building needing this extra money. Here not one has said about it. Because even those who supported are hit very very hard by increase in Petrol price hike, Gas Cylinder price hike. And worst of all the vegetable prices have more than doubled. more
Govt is least bothered about the plights of Senior Citizens. Now the time has come, that we have to show our voting power. We are approximately 13 Crores. Out of this around 1 crore are pensioner and rest have to depend on market Interest and MFs. Both are giving low returns. Who so ever takes care of us, we will vote for him/her. more
In fact Railways is running at 90% occupancy in average in almost all trains and profit has blossomed but inspite of it, senior concession is not restored. Cost of MPs & MLAs to the exchequer i.e. tax payers money is running into thousands of billion rupees in an year. Also they enjoy pension for life time if they complete one term of 5 years. We, even after putting 30 plus years of service, no pension. People must think and act without much delay more
An elected member is entitled to pension and other freebies even if he dies after taking oath. I think there is no condition of completion of 5 year term. He/she is also entitled to pension for every term as per the order of our 'honourable' supreme court. Our judiciary lacks commercial acumen which has injected many ills in our system of governance. more
Railways should restore what was before covid days for the sr citizens. I think PM should give directive to the railway authorities since looks like they are givig a rosy picture to PM on this but our PM who talks of benefits to sr citizens should give directives on this otherwise in the next gen election sr citizens will think twice on this more
