Senior Citizen Traveling by Trains

Every time I need to go long
journey by train, I just get distressed. Lot many suggestions are forwarded through the Local Circles but the seat booking and post booking remains troublesome.
IRCTC site was showing 33 seats in AC3 as available. 1st attempt money deducted from the account but seats not booked.

After several failed transactions got confirmed Middle and Upper seats for Seniors.

Could anyone make me understand that for whom railways are keeping lower seats?

Or does it mean that out of 33 available seats, there's not a single lower seat vacant. Very strange.

What's this IRCTC application which can look at the two or three captchas, can see the mentioned age but it can't detect the available lower seat as per the age.
Thank you Indian Rail. God bless. more

To my knowledge, in one 3 AC coach there are 16 lower berths. Of this 6 lower berths goes in tatkal quota (tatkal 20 per coach) 3 lower berth quota 2 lower berths in EQ . the remaining is only 5. As per the present system if LB quota is available it is automatically alloted in the system if you are elegible for LB quota. Again LB quota is for male above 60 and female above 45 years. and at counter pregnent women also given LB quota. The LB in general is alloted in reservation sequence. I do not know which train you reserved. If the train has three or more 3AC coaches. the availability of 33 will surely be upper and side upper except stray cases of LB cancellation at the time of your reservaion. It is advisable in such circumstances to go to the reservation counter in person and check a berth of your convenience is available. If not available try another date or train. more

Very simple , they are keeping the seats for the agents. Just try with an agent, give some premium and you will get the desired seats. more

Agree that IRCTC leaves a lot to be desired. The Ministry advertises so many facilities, but unfortunately most trains do NOT run as per their schedule. I say, please improve on punctuality nad then introduce hi fi facilities. more
