Senior Citizens

hello - my parents are senior citizens and many times they travel by train. I have regularly seen the train platforms changing at the last minute with passengers hurrying from one platform to the other. It is very difficult for senior citizens to climb the staircase and run from one platform to the other. Kindly ensure that the announcements for the right platform are made and in case the train is arriving at a different platform, the train should wait for appropriate time at the platform so that people could board the train. There should be some volunteers at the platform who can help senior citizens. more

for some strange reasons, the escalators/lifts does not cater to go down from the bridge and the passengers have to manually get down the steep stairs, damaging their knees and backs. Are the railways interested in generating more demand for knee and back bone surgeons? for ex: Egmore at Chennai, Kacheguda at Hyderabad. at Nompally it is a different story - all the staff from retiring room to ticket collector to plat form vendors and porters assured the escalator won't work to climb down, on whose advise we senior citizens took a detour around the platform to find the escalator to climbing down at platform no 5/6, seems railways are averse to boasting of new facilities created!! more
Ratan Rateria It is really a very big problem....Railways must do something about it....It has happened with me also many times.... more
Indeed. A valuable point. Not just senior citizens, even usual passengers may have sufficient luggage that they cannot run between platforms at the last moment. Parents traveling with kids would also find this difficult to manage. Additionally if platforms are crowded, and all to-board passengers of a certain train start running to change platforms, it would create stampede like situations and trouble other travelers.
