Servicability Standards

Last year we bought an air purifier from this company Xiaomi. This year, when we need to replace its filter, we cant find them.

Can consumer ministry please make some rules that any company that is making a product must be required to maintain a sufficient stock of consumables and service parts.

No body cares about service in India and till their is a law no body will.

Till then stop buying MI because your purifier will be dead after 1st season. more

That is the problem with most manufacturers. Economists have an excuse for not subjecting any manufacturer to controls- they say market will take care of it. It is a joke on the individual consumer. Unfortunately we are set to follow the American model which is free for all which would result in a costly economy as in US.On the one hand there is a clamour against inspection raj mainly orchestrated by the industry and industry associations. On the other hand there are many blogs asking government to intervene. Recall volks wagen which took customers for a ride, recent reports that baby powder, manufactured by a leading international company very much present in India, containing asbestos. How to check all such cases unless you have government standards and inspections. We have good systems in India for example, FSSAI, Agmark, BIS operations etc and these are being vilified in the name of free enterprise based on much failed American model, forced on our country by economists, all trained and practiced in US, giving evidence to US Congressional Committees how to corner India, getting back and pontificate writing books based on their Indian stint, all appointed advisers by our own government. more
Yes, some regulation has to be there. more
We should also remember this: products become obsolete within a year or two, nowadays. It is impractical for any manufacturer to keep years worth of spares for every product. In fact, my experience is that as soon as a customer is told the cost of repairing a three year old electronic product, they prefer to buy a new one. more
Though we talk high morality and patriotism, when it comes to buying we forget that a Chinese company which sells junk in the name of product without back-up of services is favored over Indian Companies simply because they are cheap. Were it an Indian Product, you would have got its spares. Now for spares also if Indian Government allows imports from China, that would finish our Domestic companies. Let us be reasonable besides being responsible citizens to give our own Small & Medium Industries patronage to help them stand on their feet where besides products being made available, this would also help in job creation. Recently in Noida (UP) Hi-Pad a Chinese company manufacturing Xiaomi, Lava & Cool Pad brand of mobiles sacked 200 employees without notice as their management felt that there was a slowdown in the market and they need to cut down on production. more
If the product is with in warrenty , they are bound to serve. If not in warrenty then you should have gone for AMC. Else it is difficult to catch them. Yes servicing aspects must be kept in mind before purchase, perticularly if the product is Chineese . more
