Service charge by restaurants.

Hi everyone, I have come across many articles on the policy of service charge levied by restaurants in Gurgaon. However, I see no changes in this policy in the restaurants I have visited so far.

They charge 10% service charge which appears in the bills. Please check one of the bills attached herewith.

Is this deliberate by the restaurants or they are not aware of this policy. I am quite confused and how do I tackle this. more

Why service charge? When the prices are inclusive of service expenditure. There should not be any column for service charge. They may mention TIP. more
Ms. Gloria , I have attached the communication from the Department of consumer affairs dt. 21st April 2017 just a while ago . This should be shown from your whats App when you are confronted . All the best more
Please note the bill itself says "SRVC CHRG IS OPTNL" - Abbreviation for "Service Charge is Optional" - if you don't pay it they've already said they don't have an issue ... reduce that amount from total and pay in cash or credit card. more
As per Guidelines issued by Department of Consumer Affairs, the bill presented to the customer may clearly display that the service charge is voluntarily, and the service charge column of the bill may be left blank for the customer to fill up before making payments. 2. In my view the restaurant has already violated the guidelines. However, the consumer should have refused to pay the service charge. more
Dear All, I have another bill as proof of a restaurant called Pranksters in Sector 29, Gurgaon, which has charged me 10% SC of Rs.869/- VAT at 18.90% and CGST and SGST of 2.5% each. Just the taxes and SC cost me 2500 over and above the bill..I am unable to attach the bill here..what should be done in this case. Should I send the bill to consumer forum? more
