Service Charge Issue - What abt Implementation?

I think the YES/No option as I read about yesterday is a practical idea. This groups where people with varied backgrounds are there should debate and develop a model that will help implement such a change.

Central Govt can only issue advisory and directives. It is the state and local bodies that have to make it happen on ground.

How to ensure a restaurant in Faridabad is complying and giving consumer a choice is the question that needs a model.

Can it be State Food Dept or Consumer Dept or Local Police, collector, who should lead this? more

concerned dept should verify whethet the rule has been implemented all of a sudden a group of officials should come & make a surprise check more
It is obvious that all of the money collected by the Hotelier as service charge are not distributed to the staff uniformly as tips collected from customers. Part of it goes to their own pocket. They say that this meant for breakages and other services like toilet rolls napkins cleaning etc. Ideally all the costs incurred by a hotelier should be factored in the cost of the product , i.e: the food, over which no other charges except Service tax and VAT should be applicable which goes to Central and State Govt respectively. It is entirely the at the whim of the customer to pay tip directly to the bearer if he is happy with his service. This is based on his subjective satisfaction . Hotelier cannot and has no right to mandatory imposition of service charge on customer. more
What is the Consumers Affairs planning to do on this matter? more
I do not think SC was introduced by Govt. S Tax & SC should not be mixed up. ST issue will get resolved when GST is introduced. As aptly said, SC should be banned in Hotels & restaurants. Option scheme gives the customer partial treatment between those who pay & those who do not pay. more
when there is no justification for service charges why it is made optional. when option is given the service provider think it is mandatory and make it compulsory. why it be included in the bill? if customer is happy he may give Tip but not service charge. more
