Service Charge - new acts by restaurants

Recently went to a chain restaurant - Pizza Express. When we asked them to remove Service Charge from bill - they said we need your phone number and name to do it.

Then they didnt remove service charge but gave us 10% discount. And most likely will now send us sms every week about offers etc

So they are saying we wont remove service charge - give you discount but spam you.

Can the dept do anything? more

It's important to communicate to PizzaExpress on record what you feel as consumer and what you are telling other consumers. Had I been in your place, I would have used twitter to copy them (@pizzaExpress, @PizzaExpressIN) this LC conversation along with consumer affairs ministry. If they start spamming you, question them using twitter or any other media (where it surely reaches them). Hopefully if they value their brand they will mend their ways. more
It will work to handle them in such forums. more
nO THE DEPARTMENT CAN NOT DO ANYTHING AS THEY HAVE NO GUIDELINES TO TACKLE THIS PROBLEM more
Service charge is not a matter of right. It is the consumer, who decides. more
Shailendra Sir whom you are going to jail all are connected to political Big Boss. Government is run by Mafia. Everyone has setting in everyplace either it is departmental store, GYM or anything without setting you can't run a business In railway when bad food is served in Rajdhani express only the contractor is fined hardly 1 lakh rupees his license is not canceled so you can imagine the setting, Nowadays setting is needed in every step of life. more
These are political~economical related decisions. In our democracy taking stern action against such traders are difficult because these traders will take the help of opposition parties who are crazy to grab power and not interested in bringing in any discipline in any manner whatsoever and create problems. The way out is react as you did and boycot such restaurants. more
