Sharing my experience for getting OCI (supposed to be free) for existing PIO
So stupid of me, I got into trap for ordering OCI card in lieu of PIO when government website clearly mentioned it was at no cost. Now, I received an email that I will have to pay 20 bucks plus hell lot of documents that was never mentioned in the original application form. Beware NRIs who are thinking about this. This is improvement...a way to extract more money from you. more
You know it is not only payment. It is pain assocaited with the number of documents that needs to be sent along with. It is same Indian govt types...they will surely give pain....no matter how good they make the process. Fyi, I have PIO....and I am not sure what is the fun in integrating OCI and PIO....it is just making money. And here is the list of documents that are required - never mentioned earlier: 1)NO ONLINE PAYMENT RECORD OR ACCEPTABLE PAYMENT FOUND. MISSING APPLICANTION SERVICE FEE, ICWF FEE IN TOTAL AMOUNT OF 20.00; 2)MISSING PHYSICAL PIO CARD; 3)PROOF OF ADDRESS COPY FROM STATE ISSUE ID, DRIVERS LICENSE OR UTILTY BILLS ONLY;(PARENT) 4)CURRENT VISA SATUS OR GREEN CARD COPY FROM BOTH PARENTS; 5)OCI APPLICATION FOR MINORS PART B MUST BE NOTARIZED; 6)MISSING PARENTAL AUTHORIZATION FOR MINORS MUST BE NOTARIZED AND SIGNED BY BOTH PARENTS; 7)MISSING ADDITIONAL PARTICULARS FORM; 8)MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE COPY FROM PARENT. You have not faced the pain...or I guess you are ignoring it.... And there is a cost associated with collecting and sending them via courier...who is going to pay for that....and as a matter of fact, I am not getting any convinience for this... Simply Stupid! UNTHOUGHTFUL DECISION or in other words - extortion of money... more
Mr.Taneja, Indian Citizenship is given up voluntarily and if you want to visit then you need to substantiate the claim for an OCI card. You pay like others nothing is free. India did not charge you for their and subsidised schooling, medical benefits and trying. So stop whining and pay up along with documents. India is not a Banana republic , so that you can come and go as it pleases you. more
