1st come 1st basis should be the methodology. All the seats are now equally sized. There cannot be inequality being practiced by the Government in any of its services. Its not just we, putting into our constitution , but it should be put into practical usage. The one 1st comes pays the money in advance that of the later itself is the price he/or she pays more !!!. Time spent is the essence. This aspect we should keep in mind always because money can be earned, but time spent is spent. People who have money will only keep on getting these seats and the weaker section or the late comers will be totally deprived. !!!. Even if seats are vacant ?.!!! I am also totally against the increasing the advance booking of reservations extended to several months. The public money is being used by railways at public cost by way of rotation of money without any interest. !!!. Like airlines , in fact, the railways should allow a passenger to advance his bookings if available without any further service charge. - in fact, this should be the principle to be implemented with immediate effect. The government should be running these as service motto and not to make just money only. The data if taken by anyone will reveal that several booking and cancellation charges would have exceeded the normal collection of a running time (may be quite possible if obtained through RTI !!!). The Government should take initiatives to : Convert all the lines into broad gauge. Into double lines Into electrification of the entire route. every half hour or so there should be trains clockwise and anti clockwise or up & down the corridors of south to north & east to west. Now only the will of the ministry and the government is required to implement this. Until this is implemented, we will not be giving the citizens the best service / mode of travel, saving several crores of fuel and thus saving precious foreign exchange and also the ecology will be saved from global warming. Not only this, several trees are to be planted on the boarders of the railway line to get good oxygen, to prevent dust and also it will help prevention of encroachments. more  

Yes of course the side and upper seats should be charged on lower prices. more  

I agree.once we boarded a train and there were three side berths in 2nd Ac we were shocked.The amt of money railways are charging and giving side berth at the same price. The side berths are same in 3rd and 2nd AC,therefore the price shd be same in both classes. more
