SIGN BOARDS IN TRAINS FOR CLEAR INDICATION OF THE START & DESTINATIONS:

TO THE NOTICE OF MANAGER , OPERATIONS :
Travellers depends mainly on the signboards on the trains or buses to identify to board the right Train /vehicle . In the attached picture one can see a signboard with 3 names of the trains . All of them touch Tiruchirapalli from chennai Egmore . But 3 different trains starting at different times . How can Railways confuse the passenger with this sort of signboards .

SIGN BOARDS ARE MEANT TO FACILITATE THE PASSENGER TO IDENTIFY & CONFIRM THE RIGHT TRAIN IN A HURRY TO BOARD IN. NOT TO FACILITATE THE RAILWAY EMPLOYEES TO FOLLOW SHORTCUT METHODS TO CONFUSE .

Will the railways allow a passenger to travel in any of the other Trains with a ticket bought for a different train mentioned on the board.

THESE ARE SIMPLE MATTERS , RAILWAYS SHOULDN'T WAIT FOR THE COURT TO INTERVENE. more

Very true. I too find it very confusing. I think the Railways has resorted to this move to reduce the workload for its 'overworked' employees. Certainly, it is passenger unfriendly. more
The Indian Railways are the masters in confusing the passengers rather than mitigating their inconveniences. Their people never use common sense until such small things are pointed out by putting fingers in their eyes, as happened in the case of reflecting the kind of the available seats/berths prior to final booking to facilitate the applicants in taking a decision as to whether or not to proceed ahead and make the reservation! more
If we start talking about the imperfections in railways it is infinite. In the year 1983 our former PM Smt. Indira Gandhi brought some experts from Japan . What they told was that 'IF GOD EXISTS ANYWHERE IT SHOULD BE IN INDIAN RAILWAYS' . Indian railways is very cruel to the common man. In the year 1977 while I was doing my PhD in IIT Madras I had to go to Bombay. I approached the railway station and filled up my application form from Madras to Bombay. The person, a lady in the reservation counter simply rejected my application and told that there are no trains to Bombay. I was a villager and was shocked to hear this. When I returned to hostel my friends told that I should either write the name as VT or Dadar. When write Dadar I got reservation. While coming back I booked my ticket early to Madras and got the ticket no. as E/53. I came in time and occupied my seat . At the last moment one person came to get a reserved seat and paid 10 rupees to the TT. The the TT immediately kicked me out and gave the berth to that person.I had to stand all the way to Madras.Thank God due to computerized reservation such things are not happening that frequently now a days. Once I was travelling from Kannur to Baroda via Palhgat(there was no Konkan railway at that time). I was just talking to brother near the last compartment. The train simply went off without any announcement. Another time I was travelling from Kannur to Ernakulam junction in Malabar express. Unexpectedly the train stopped at the town station. I did not get down as the train is supposed to go to the junction. Actually the train didnot go there and simply bypassed the route. Then I had to get down at Kottayam. There was no announcement as it was going to junction for years together. But such a thing does not happen in other places. After landing in Florida in I had to catch the next flight to Tallahasse. Even thogh there was enough time gat I could not locate the airlines for boarding pass and before that the plain took off. I reached there after 1 hr of the the departure of the train and explained my situation. With out any hesitation the lady in the counter immediately allotted me the boarding pass for the next flight more
This is a long pending issue, just like in private sector railway must remove/terminate the employees/staff who are incompetent and do not perform their duty with honesty and integrity. The above issue is one of the negligence from the railway department because the problem will be faced by passengers not railway officials. more
Railway officers and staff have become negligent in their duties of changing name boards on train coaches. They therefore found a method of avoiding this work altogether about 6-7 years ago by placing all possible names of stations that the train may touch in its zig-zag journey before coming back to the base station. This practice is continuing till date and the passengers remain confused all the time. Railway Minister is urged to look into this inefficient method of his department staff and take suitable action to avoid this confusion. more
