Allow me to share this with you, dear members! Visited my usual hardware store for an item for our bathroom.....two weeks ago (important to mention this, you'll understand why!). Asked for the JAGUAR make because our house is equipped with this brand only. The salesman, actually the owner, opened up a book, went through it and quoted a price. The price was conforming with the price that we had been paying earlier. Agreed to buy the product. And now it becomes interesting. One of his salesmen, a bright looking young man, approaches me with another product and says that I should buy that, would cost one-third of the Jaguar make and he promised that if anything went wrong, he would replace it free-of-cost. On my asking, whether I would get this warranty in writing, the answer was, "Sir, you are our old known customer; you don't need any written warranty from us". That made me think. I yet decided for the standard Jaguar product which comes with a "written warranty". The product was packed, brought to the table; however, the owner made no attempt to write a bill until I asked him for one. He murmured something about GST being charged and I let it be, because that was justified. When I got the bill in my hand I saw that he had charged GSTs on the price that he had quoted from the catalogue. It's here that I confronted him. Did he not think that he should first deduct the usual VAT and other cesses which are already built in the catalogue price and also the "understandable" discount on those prices? The gentleman put up a strong front, resulting in my declining purchase of the product. I was on the street, approaching my car, when a salesman beckoned me to return. I refused and let our car driver let me into the car. People, you won't believe me when I saw the shop owner rushing down the steps, opened the car door and asked me to please come back into the shop. He not only deducted the VAT and other cesses from the catalogue price, but also gave another "usual" 20% discount on the catalogue price. If after that he added the usual GSTs, then I would be a fool to decline that, right? People, you've got to be resolute to make things happen!
