So dont take train from Delhi

If you are travelling to a metro and travel by AC you are better off travelling by plane cost wise.

If you travel by sleeper class, take train. Good analysis by TOI and ET reporter. more

Except rajdhani all trains 3rd AC fare is between 1500-1600, while if you book flight ticket one month before or say 20 days in advance then you can get ticket between 2000-2500. Yes it is waste to travel by any rajdhani trains as the fare is almost same due dynamic fare and time is more or less is same as normal trains... I don't understand who was that intelligent fellow who gave such an useless and completely idiotic idea of dynamic fares in rajdhani, shatabdi and duranto trains. Now IR has also revised food quantity, fare is same but food has been reduced seems like railways will only cut the neck of common man for increasing their revenue while they will be silent for the corruption inside their own system due to which facilities are almost same as it was before but fare has gone up and i read a news that railways is planning to increase the fare of garibrath trains. Railway do not see that at every station at every platforms infact every department is violating rules and regulations every single minute including public. We all are ware that crossing track is a punishable offence but even we can see the violation of those types of activities in the stations of capital city of india. If railways wants to increase the revenue following are my suggestions 1) Increase the vigilance officers(must be honest and strict towards their duties) for checking in trains in reserved compartments. During festival season TTE is most earning person of railway every day they have fixed collection in their mindset for festival seasons and non-festivals season 2) Impose heavy fine for every single violation of rules and laws within railways premises immediate fine must be implemented doesn't matter if it has to be repeat for 1000 times for a single culprit. 3) Railways must identify scrap lying in their yard must sell it through e-tendering. 4) Railway must impose heavy fine and imprisonment for the contractor's involved in execution of various railways projects when that particular projects comes with any fault with which it attracts loss of human life or loss public money. 5) Railways must immediately terminate their employee who are caught for corruption and a legal case must be ordered against them and new or honest and hard working graduate candidate must be given that particular job. 6) Food quality for all the vendor's including local tea sellers must be strictly audited by third party inspection/auditing team timely if the quality is found to be inferior immediately license should be terminated and replaced with the vendor who comply the guidelines of FASSAI. 7) 100% barrier should be provided along with tracks of trains and should be monitored through camera's zonal wise, if somebody found breaking or obstructing the running trains must be strictly punshied. more
This is not true. In most of the cases its only AC 1st class that is more expensive than economy flight. Besides the comfort levels of traveling in a train are far more than a jam packed economy flight. The only advantage is for business or office commuters, who save a lot of time on flights. more
many times 2AC fare is equal to or more than flight charges. Especially in Rajadhani and shadapti expresses the fare is everyday increasing due to dynamic fare. more
By nefarious design on some erratic assumptions or without consideration towards public the govt has made travel from airport to city very costly by giving a free reign to taxi operators. The travel cost to and from airport comes to nearly two third of your air ticket and travelling by train comes cheaper. Since railway stations are within the city , commuting is much much cheaper. I remember older times there used to be bus from airports to city which one could catch right from the exit area at very reasonable costs. Then from the city one could further take auto or taxi as required. Currently The taxi booking counters quotes any vulgar rates. Further, Even on small airports the parking charges are made unnecessarily high and bouncers are employed by parking contractor who force you to pay parking even when you just come to drop and go your friends and relatives in your own car (nagpur sonegaon airport was once famous for gundagardi, wonder if it is still the same). On some airports (Example raipur) there is a time slot but their machines are tempered and while your watch may show five minutes his would be already showing eight minutes and will charge you parking at exit with bouncers. No one checks them, no law and order applies to them. On pune airport even entry of two wheelers is banned which most student community used for picking up their student friends due to high cost of taxis and even autorickshaws. The prepaid autorickshaw also charge exorbitantly though still less than taxis but purposefully their prepaid booth has been moved far away to harass commuters if they want to use autorickshaw instead of a taxi. Worst thing is that govt has purposefully not brought the ola and uber under the metered taxi and they charge anything upto four times if it is late flight to commute to ones home. Surge pricing is nothing but extortion by these multinationals. The govt should run buses from airport to city to reduce four wheeler congestion at airports, bring ola ,uber under metered taxi immediately to prevent profiteering due to legal loopholes, let autos ply to let poorer people also earn money. Merely having economical air tickets is of no use to promote air travel. In fact even budget airlines can run city bus service and link with their air tickets. Hope indigo is listening. more
You said it,sir. What you say is centpercent correct. As you say ex-serviceman buses used to be run in many airports. It should be revived and introduced in all airports. Even railway stations should be covered to important localities. Years back Delhi used to have RL services to stns. Now Chennai central has buses coming right into the stn. By the way Bangladesh airports you can get cycle rickshaw right at the airport arrival gate. more
The other reason for travelling by Air that traveller is sure about time schedule, now a days in Railway journey nobody is sure on timings most of the train running lates, it is not because of budget it is because of poor monitioring & negligible accountability. more
It is not common & regular Second if other path are not working properly, same virus may affect Air route also that is the reason accountability & punishment is essential part in effective action. more
it may work other way also. many a times we read about flights being cancelled. that way our schedule can get upset also more
Yes, it is a fact. Except travelling by sleeper class, Train now-a-days is costly and time taking, apart from getting a ticket, unless planned in advance. Hence people prefer trains. Railway should think seriously. more
