Solving the miseries of a sleeper class traveler
Those with general tickets are allowed to remain in the sleeper compartment by paying some penalty. Also, the wait listed passengers travel on their tickets making it difficult for the passengers with reserved tickets to travel peacefully. The overcrowded coaches also results in dirty toilets and compartments. These kind of experiences have often raised one question, why should sleeper class passengers tolerate so much? Also, the RAC ticket holders, even after making full payment for the ticket, have to travel on half seat. This shows that how greedy our railways are.
If the railways are indeed committed to bring a relief to sleeper class travelers, then they can consider the following proposal:
1. Scrap completely the system of issuing RAC tickets.
2. Any average express train can contain a total of 26 coaches. It should contain 12 sleeper coaches, 6 Air conditioned coaches, 2 guard cum ladies coaches, 4 general compartments and 2 wait listed compartments.
3. The 2 wait listed compartments will be like any other general compartment, it will contain approximately 90 seats per coach, that means in 2 coaches, 180 travelers can be accommodated. In any train only 180 wait listed seats should be issued. These two coaches will be connected to the sleeper class coaches and the TTE can allot regular seats to wait listed travelers first in the order of their wait list position. The wait listed travelers should be charged at a lesser rate than the normal fare and the fare difference should be collected only if the regular seats are allocated to them.
4. Apart from this, no passengers with passes or general ticket should be allowed to board the sleeper class coaches.
The above system can bring a great relief to the sleeper class passengers and can give them a better value for their money. Otherwise fights are quite common in sleeper class coaches between the actual ticket holders and seat trespassers.
If the ministry wants to really make railways a better experience, then they may kindly consider the above proposal. more
