Speed of Booking in Railway Reservation Systems

Yesterday, a member Mr. Akash Jain had posted a copy of a ticket which was booked 2 months in advance showing 142 waitlist at 8:00 am on his ticket. His concern was how come at 8 am when the reservation opened, they got a waitlist of 142. He suspected that there was lack of transparency in the booking.
Attached, please find how booking transactions commenced starting at 8:00:00 am. Please note that his transaction hit the railway systems at 8:00:27 seconds and that resulted in a waiting list of 142. In 27 seconds, all the seats were reserved and 141 seats got wait listed.
The tickets that are printed do not display the seconds and therefore the attached will help you understand.
Please note that this is how quickly tickets get booked on busy trains and the one referred is one of them.
While the objective of this community is not to address individual grievances, we are only sharing this so everyone understands how quickly things get booked at times.

several times i had a problem that is after on line booking , system shows that tkt not booked but amount from the bank is debited. . most of the times we may not have sufficient fund why I loose the amount for 4-5 days, why I am not able to travelled. due to the money. . more

From the data provided it appears that most of the people booking at 8 AM are 6 in number which seems ridiculous. Railways must check few samples from the early bookings whether these 6 people are from same area / family/ group or the reservation is made by an agent in personal name and sold to different people. If by an agent Railway must also look into any algorithm which stores the data on the browser and submits exactly at 8.00.00 AM more

I had booked a ticket on line which was under waitlist.After a couple of days when I checked the booking status,it mentioned that the ticket was confirmed.But a few days before the travel it again showed waitlist.Hence I had to cancel this ticket and book thru another train and got the booking confirmed. more

Only long term solution will be availability of more seats, trains! Trust Indians to take their wallets out for any scarcity. One has to ask himself , transparency would assist in reducing woes somewhat! more
