SPEED thrills but kills......
Railways is planning for Semi high speed trains on tracks that hardly withstand 100km/h speed to make travel faster. What I think running trains on time will make it much faster even with 100 km speed as passengers are quite satisfied with Rajdhanis and Shatabdis running on time. If trains run on time we will travel faster than with semi high speed not running on time . Also we don't have tracks right now to run those trains and it will be a major safety compromise .
So leave high speed for bullet trains with dedicated high speed corridors. more

India that boasts of thousands of engineers could not bring out proper coaches with modern technology after 60 years of Independence! Some 15 years back, the coach factory guys saw the picture of double Decker coaches in Europe and they ventured out building one of Indian style. They never thought of the R&D behind the European models and the metallurgy behind them. They built a few put them in short route service that run at 60 km per hour and within 3 months time all of them caught FIRE!!! In Europe the double Decker coaches run at an average speed of 28 km per hour! What India needs is coaches that can carry more passengers, So double Decker is an option. They should import good coaches and first study how they are built and then build after R&D. In Europe, they believe in Safety first. In India, Accidents can happen. If killed railway will give 2 lacs, injured 50,000. end of story! more

Jayakrishnan Alambathji you are cent percent correct. I really admire the new Prime Minister in his endeavour in impoving India but he should work as per the need of people and prioritise things. He may take first the joining the rivers to each other on priority basis this not only benefit the people of India such as farmers and common people, flooding of land and saving life and property from devastation effect. People will bless our PM who will this way save india from such natural calamity which follows every year in one or other part of India. High speed train project can wait for some period but not this one more

Laying of tracks in Shinkansen Model will cost Rs.200 crores per kilometer. For a 500 kilometer journey it comes to Rs.1,00,000 crores. Double tracks may need new land about 15,000 acres land for a 500 kilometer track. Cost of trains extra. For an investment of this sort what will be the fare of a 500 kilometer journey?. Can the common man afford it?. Those who can afford can as well purchase an air ticket. more

Another way is to air condition all the coaches which will reduce the air flow into the carriages and will help to increase the speed at lower fuel consumption.. more
