I am sharing this experience so that we become aware of unfair practices being followed by SpiceJet particularly, as maybe other airlines also. Recently, I did a SpiceJet flt booking thru IVR & the tele executive repeatedly reassured me that Rs. 225 convenience fee charged for payment using credit/debit cards will be refunded to the same Account within 24-48 hours. Even after booking, I called back SpiceJet customer care & the tele-executive once again emphasised that I need not worry because the amount will be reversed. However, even after a week when I did not receive the amount, I e-mailed SpiceJet customer care & got a reply that this amount is not refundable. Then, I had to go thru a long explanation & reasoning e-mail including telling them that "non refund is tantamount to wilful defraud", after which I got a confirmation that the amount will be refunded, which has happened now, nearly 10 days after their first assurance. I am still going to report the matter to DGCA and raise a grievance with airsewa.gov.in. Any other suggestions to bring SpiceJet & other airlines to book, and ensure that they don't charge any excessive unwarranted fees and also that they carryout their commitments, especially where moneys are involved. more
SpiceJet cheated me Rs. 2,000.- I purchased SpiceMax services for two passengers and they did not show it in the reservation and I had to pay it again. I am still waiting for refund of the first payment of Rs. 2000.- I don't if I will ever get it. I am still following up with them. All airlines cheat in some way but SpiceJet tops the list of Cheaters. more
Am surprised that for Rs 225 you write such a long grieveince on the airline, the government cheats you every day takes away more than 60% of what you earn but still you shut your mouth and never voice a word of regret, do you think this giovernment will fight for your 225, approach the government they will charge you Rs 5000 to get back your Rs 225. more
Just as a matter of info, over a year back, I fought for over 2 months with Air Asia for a double debit which they deliberately did (Why me?) and I got the money back with an apology of oversight. I have stopped using Air Asia for travel; wonder if I can boycott every other airline that deliberately tries to cheat me!! more
I agree with you Derek: but I go by the adage we have to choose our battles to fight!! Tom & Goliath stories are good to read about but such things do not happen in real life unless one is willing to spend money, time, effort & resources to fight the Govt. In this case, the amount was small & their commitment to refund was confirmed. So, I sensed that it was only a matter of putting them in a corner & they gave in. more
Mr. Srinivasan, I salute you. I wish there were more people like you who fight injustice. The problem is , dishonesty and corruption have become so common, that after a while you lose heart to fight against it, specially where Govt agencies are concerned. I expected improvement under the present dispensation; but their focus is only on mega scams. The corruption at the ground level has in fact increased. more
I agree there are hidden charges over which we (lesser mortals) have no control, but the reason why I went after SG is because they promised me that convenience fee (CF) will be refunded: period!! And I am aware that the conversations are recorded & played back maybe only when customer raises an issue. Had they not said that CF is refundable, I would have just paid up (don't we all do, quietly?) without batting an eyelid. Now, my next fight with the next flight booking will be 'if SG refunds CF, why shouldn't other Airlines too?' OR 'why should Airlines charge CF at all, if they are going to refund it any ways?'. The fact is, that SG (and probably other airlines too) do not refund the CF UNLESS they had committed to it earlier & a customer demands refund. So, the magic could be to first try IVR booking & make the tele-executive give a firm commitment that CF will be refunded and then complete booking thru IVR or thru online mode and raise a hue & cry if refund is not received in 4-5 working / biz days. Well, I am no crusader, but when I am cheated out my hard-earned (everyone's earnings are hard-earned, isn't it?) it bugs me & I sweat it out to get it back, of course as an e-mail & telephone tiger. In my opinion, it would be futile & ill-advised to take the legal route for small amounts or choose to attack the Govt.!! We are all entitled to our views and this is mine. more
