Standardization of mobile accessories

LocalCircles had conducted this poll recently. One of the big issues we have is different type of accessories for different products made by same company.

Case in point apple. Different charger for mobile tablet and laptop just so apple can sell more items

Today europe has made progress and now all smartphones and tablets would have to use a common charger under a provisional European Union agreement clinched on Tuesday.

The plan would force all companies -- most notably Apple Inc. -- to make phones, tablets, e-readers and digital cameras to use the USB-C charger, negotiators announced.

Can LocalCircles escalate this in India. Can members share their POV on this and if they support this. more

This is a common ploy. I feel that like pen drive and other external drives, chargers and all other accessories should be common and the outlet also same. Both apple and other manufacturers should have identical options. more
The manufacturer of the smartphones and Tablets or Laptops - do not manufacture the charger. They get is specially manufactured by their Vendors - depending on business demands and business conditions of both of them. None of them protects the business of the other. 2nd point to note is that the wattage, current rating, heat dissipation requirement are not same for all chargers. The battery used are also different in each of them. If Govt starts dictating the business - why not they start manufacturing all of the products ? Govt can only dictate safety and health standards. Govt can dictate fair business laws. When Govt buy something - they can dictate the specification. more
Madam, In order that a product to be what it should be, the starting point can't be what Europe or America have done. It is the affordability, convenience and technical feasibility that should be guiding factors. If a single universal charger of certain wattage is suitable for charging gadgets of varying power consumption for the same unit of time, it must be provided to the customers, provided the cost of such charger is unduly more than individual chargers. Not all people can afford a variety of gadgets and most have only one or so. This is best left to the technically competent companies in the market. In fact, such a product is technically and economically feasible, some enterprise will produce and market it. more
I feel all the smart phones should have same charger and the tablets or I Pads should have different chargers. As regards standardisation, I don't feel it would be difficult. more
I agree, to address the issue of environment being loaded with electronic waste. Case in point is Apple, who have different charges for every unique device, while their technologies are environmentally friendly, such as solid state hard disk, with power requirement being minimum. Also the iphones are more compact than Android phones. However, on the flip side, Apple's products require different softwares bundled with the main device. more
