Standards for after sale services
Several months back there was conversation that the standards body of India is taking up formation of after sales services standards for white goods and gadgets. What is the status of that project.
Is BIS actually working towards that?? I see consultation on other standards but not that.

These standards are badly needed. Relatives in India. Refrigerator not working for 5-6 days. Company yet to resolve

Standards may be set, rules and regulations drawn up, laws made but all this has zero value unless strictly implemented.

In India, still a large number of house hold items are being sold without BIS certification. Many products carry fake BIS numbers. There is no effective authority to inspect/test the products at production/retail end. Most of such items are sold without bill to retailers/consumers. Due to corruption and non-accountability, the BIS officials rarely work. The consumer Affairs Ministry also is virtually non functional due to political constraints as it disturbs the vote bank. The officials in sch departments get regular and fixed salaries with time bound promotions irrespective of their performance. Under such conditions why any body should exert. There is need to resurrect every Govt. institution in India by linking their salaries to performance on monthly basis.

Bureau of Indian Standards is for Quality Management System through regular Quality Assurance Testing. They do not have provision for sales services standards

The original manufacturer has to repair at his factory, the defective item. Service personnel must simply transport the material and do fresh installation free. Only this added expense make the manufacturer do proper quality control of products. For eg the original paint of a car is immersion painting. If it is scratched the vendor spray an overcoat loosing the original quality of paint paid for.
