Standards for anti viral textiles

Will the ministry of consumer affairs and bis please guide us whether these ads (attached) where a shirt proposes to kill 99.5% virus are treated as misleading ad or not. I read in paper that several companies now launching anti viral textiles.

Does BIS have standards for this? Once something like this comes at scale lots of people will end up buying them and get duped unless of course govt certifies it via bis.

One wonders how come the world is able to keep such products at bay but India fails. more

There appears to be no limit to human inventiveness in manipulating people's mind! "Innocent, until proven guilty" is a well known adage/proverb. How to prove the manufacturer guilty? And, how can the manufacturer prove that what professes is true? Could this be a case for the courts? more
Virus are not bacteria and are thus not living organisms. No lifeless material can be killed. Obviously the advertisement is faulty but it may be possible to create cloth to which the virus (one or more) do not adhere just as you sanitize your hands to free them from virus. But such an effect may lost only till first wash. It is a complicated matter and experts need to examine the claim before declaring it as misleading advertisement. more
That precisely was my point in my comment posted earlier. more

The appeal to BIS to respond to the development is pertinent. They will be able to state if such standards have been adopted by Indian standards agency. Also, the enforcement agencies need to look into the advertiser's claim if they conform to the international standards they have more..." View/Comment Reply to this email to post a comment. more
Whether the shirt will kill eCOVID-19 bateria or not must be tested by BIS or ICMR. Till such time, no product should be allowed to be sold in the market with such claims. The businessmen selling sub-standard/fake products should be jailed for 20 years and in case of death of consumer of such products, death penalty should be provided in the Law. more
Under which law can the seller be punished per your suggestion? more
