Standards for ATMs
Recently I had an issue where my card was left in an ATM machine. Machine made no warning sound, nor did it push the card out. Confusion happened because the atm right next to it (same bank) always pushed the card out and made a sound. I had lot of inconvenience.
If BIS and RBI standardise ATMs so consumer issues are addressed it will go long way.
BIS should not worry about standards for gajak and chikki and instead focus on things that matter. more

I faced the same problem in PNB old type ATM at Garia, Kolkata in 2017. I had to block the card, pay some Rs.200+ to my banker for new card, which I believe PNB will never compensate. The same ATM is still there and people knowing about it, avoid it. more

RBI GOVERNS THE STANDARDS. AS A POLICY MACHINES SOMETIMES DO NOT PUSH BACK THE CARDS DUE TO FEAR OF FORGETFUL CUSTOMERS WHO LEAVE THEIR CARDS.IN WRONG HANDS THESE THEN SHALL BE MISUSED.THIS WAS DEVISED AS A SAFETY MECHANISM, AND NOT TO HARASS CUSTOMERS. NOT ALL ATMS GIVE SOUND SIGNALS BUT DEFINITELY A BLINKING LIGHT SIGNAL IS THERE. BLOCK THE CARD AND CALL THE BANK FOR A NEW ONE. more

As a news came some months back, RBI has instructed all banks to upgrade their ATMs to a particular modern standard (specified by RBI). Banks told that the upgradation process is going on. more
