Standards for Caterers
I want to check with folks in this circle if we as a country have standards for caterers. Recently I was in a wedding in Kolkata and 80% of the guests in the wedding fell sick on the day of sangeet as the yogurt used was bad and the reception day everyone just barely made through.
Can BIS make standards for caterers or will that be done by FSSAI?? more

It is very important topic to workout some solution. Nearly all cities big or small are dotted with private caterers. Not all but most of them have no respect for or knowledge about hygiene. In my opinion these caterers should be brought under rules which are applied to hotels and bakeries etc. Just ad hotels and other food making units are given licence after proper inspection these caterers should be registered and issued licence to do business. Surprise checks should be curried out to keep a control. more

Adv. Surendran had posted his comments, but, he has not shared solutioin. Col Gupta had suggested or expressed his views, which is a fact. In case any standard fixed, who will monitor. Take example of PANTRY car food quality. Is there any laid out norms? Whether any agency carries out quality standard tests. Passengers, under duress condition, buys cooked food from pantry. Rather than find faulting with some ones view, it may be proper to share ides, which can be considered to resolve problems, which is prevailing today. Incase of a restaurant of grade III,II, or I and food stalls on street, can any one confirm what standards are adopted by them? Every Indian, if he takes cooked food from any of these above referred joints, it is not far away to be seriously sick. more
