Standards for food apps packaging
Dr. Anita Jain has put in a very useful post about not ordering from food apps as they can be giving us ill health by putting boiling hot food items in single use plastic packaging/bags.
I very strongly request BIS to come up with mandatory packaging material standards for hot restaurant food. FSSAI is giving licenses but food inspectors are clueless about packaging.
Can we get urgent action please and till this happens, must call the restaurant if u must order through such apps or with restaurants.

Because many a wrongful practices are prevalent in this Country,Consumers are unable to decide what is right and what is wrong.Wrong doing agencies must be eliminated by punishing them severely.

Advisable also would be to consult other countries on the methods they use to prevent dangers described in Ms Batra's note..... I suggest this because I've experienced hot edible food being supplies by restaurants and other eateries in plastic packages for instant eating or even for take-aways.....in Europe and also in the Americas including many Asian countries. We Indians should also not stand out in making mountains of mole hills.....

There can be several solutions: (1) Food Makers supply the same in returnable containers/tiffin carriers(Stainless Steel or Aluminium) - against a refundable deposit, as was for glass-bottled beverages, before the advent of PET in bottlings. (2) Supplies to be made in aluminium foil bags, with outer bags made of polythene or polypropylene or other plastic materials. Quite a few food suppliers have already adopted this mode of packing. (3) Innovations can be made for tetra-pack like packings at the spot of packing such food items.

Cannot we ask the restaurants to deliver the order in a tiffin career that will be returned on receipt. It require no invention.

Local Circles should get vote from its members and then make an appeal to the government PMO health minister and others on this issue.
