Standards for Healthcare Services
BIS - do you have any standards for healthcare services, esp around billing. People keep getting harassed at the hands of the hospitals, many of who do whatever they feel like.
Can we please get some basic standards going?

Do the hospital services come under the purview of BIS or they need to work within the rules & regulations framed by the central and state health departments? However, the concerned agencies of both the governments need to always have close watch over the activities of the hospitals, specifically, the private & corporate hospitals, which seriously lack transparency and never bother for the guidelines for billing. Bills are unreasonably inflated in the names of different tests, doctors' visits, nursing and medicines being these items difficult to overview. There are also endless complaints against different hospitals for being engaged in inhuman activities, like lingering the patients in ICCU and putting the patients at their last breath to the ventilator only to inflate their bills. The health department must introduce an effective mechanism to watch the activities of the hospitals closely.

There is no prescribed stds and if they come to know that you are insured and cashless transactions then they charge heavily

The health care should function within a frame work of rules prescribed by Health Department and should be reviewed at regular interval.

On the flee of different Hospital give different type of health care, these billing for similar procedures and tests differs. Patient and their family are under their own tension and are on low morale to sort out the charges and bills as every thing seems to be more opaque specially in Insurance related cases . These Corporate Big Private Hospitals wants only accreditation of NABH as propaganda point and not follow any real systems as per norms certified and required under NABH and ISO accreditation as nothing is known till the patient is about to be discharged. BIS is not dealing with any such payment of Services area as per their Statute , maximum they could issue some guideline to be followed by Health Industry.
