Standards for Hostel Services
There are literally no standards for hostel services in India. Both boys and girls hostel are poorly built for the most part and ignored in terms of maintenance. There are several dangerous and unsafe spaces, security is missing. there have been incidences of all sorts.
BIS should form basic standards for hostel services. So anyone who is starting one, has to comply to them and show their compliance upfront.

Regarding the hostels (which are a type of residential occupancy), the National Building Code of India 2016 (NBC 2016) does contain certain provisions including for new construction and periodic audit. NBC as you may know has been built around 4 pillars of safety namely Structural safety; Health safety; Fire safety; and Public safety (both during construction and in use of building services). Wish for easy money is the root cause. We also simply accept thinking it as temporary.

More or less similar condition prevails in 99% of hostels in schools & colleges of the country managed either by the governments (central & states) or by the private players excepting those basically meant for the richers capable to meet the exorbitant charges plus prevailing corruption . Moreover, the fees and charges of these hostels are kept to the barest minimum considering the financial incapability of the parents of majority of the students, which is too inadequate leaving negligible amount for maintenance after meeting the expenses on the students' boarding and other requirements. Therefore, it would be unfair to blame the managements of the hostels only.

hello most people going to hostels expect 5 star facilities at no cost/ or peanuts not even real costs ? also ? live with a family but be ready to pay depending upon the location - services etc - for example in Noida ac gas gets leaked 2 times minimum a year in summers now 9 months of the year - happens almost every year and gas filling is around rs 2000 min if no other problem in the ac and anyone who can live in a non ac room ? everything is a cost first ? nakhre karne hai then plz stay at your own home that is always the best ?

NIT hamirpur provide hostel facility. They provide room with space of one bed, one table chair for single seater. If anybody enter in the room. He/she will have to go directly on bed or chair Why this matter should not be consulted department of education, department of higher education
