Standards for Lift and Escalators

I learned recently that even large states like UP are not having a lifts act and standards.

Can the consumer dept share what are the standards for lifts in the country, and also make it mandatory for every state to have standards for lifts.

Via the circle, i am sure you can crowdsource best practices and esp borrow from place like mumbai who have lot of experience in administering lifts. more

With repeated accidents in all cities it looks like a serious concern.Deceleration injuries vertically are dangerous, results in spinal compression fractures ,transections ,and fractures of heel bones and long bones apart from other injuries .Life time of misery for the negligence of some .The GOI must bring in a law with stricter controls and punishments .A built in maintainance contract must be a part of purchase of every lift. Then only we are safe. more
Proper maintenance act and its implementation is need of the hour as multistory buildings are prevalent. more
Despite having laws and regulations, majority of builders provide substandard and local made lifts to the premises they built, which start malfunctioning from the day of installation and commission. Our law makers feel relieved of responsibilities once the laws are framed and rarely bother for application thereof as if safety of public lives is not a matter of their concern. This happens in other areas as well placing our country in the lead as far as accidental deaths are concerned. more
There are multiple parameters based on which the quality of the installed lifts are checked. These are checked starting from the design stage to giving orders to production to installation to regular maintenance. However not many people are aware or care. Please check with 'lifts' or 'vertical transport' consultants. more
