Standards for Pesticides Usage
Some time back there were posts on how pesticide companies are incentivising dealers of pesticides to mislead the farmers to buy and use more pesticide. This is leading to cancer such that there is a train from bhatinda to bikaner called cancer train.
Can some mandatory standards be set and rules made such that the farmer cannot be mislead. So in local regional language a hand out is given by the multinaitonal company via dealer to the farmer or some video clip. something innovative.

The agriculture Extension Officers are expected to guide the farmers. Moreover, the instruction contained in the pesticides should be in bold and local language to guide the farmers.

I have a terrace kitchen Garden , where only the domestic waste after curing for 3 weeks form the manure. Pests are no doubt the problems on the leaves and the flowers and the ripe ones. Tamilnadu Horticultural dept . had recommended Neem based Organic pesticide Nemarin 300 , So when I bought the stuff wanted to confirm the dosage recommended by the Dept. A 4 " container , has the information an 8 Indian Languages . Even if one can read & write is it possible to read them . So the user from his memory what was advised " one cap full into a liter of water " mixes . The script so small that it can't be read without a magnifying glass. CAN WE SUGGEST PRINT IN ONE WORKING LANGUAGE OF THE STATE WHERE IT IS SOLD .SO THAT THE LETTERS WILL BE BIG ENOUGH TO BE READ BY NAKED EYE.

There is need for Social advertising in this respect on the social media like Govt. Schemes are advertised. A special cess on annual turnover in this respect should be imposed on pesticide producing companies to fund the expense of advertising

There is dire need to guide the farmers about the optimum use of pesticides/fertilizers, irrigation water and crop diversification. Reduction in subsidies and doing away with free power supply will go long way in solving the existing problems. There is higher content of pesticides in food grains and precious water is being misused for irrigating wheat/rice fields. The production of these 2 commodities has increased much beyond requirement and that of oil seeds, dals and cotton gone down. To check this mismatch, 30% less wheat/rice produce should be procured so that farmers switch over to plant other commodities. Political parties need to rise above dirty vote bank politics in the national interest.

The harmful effects of the pesticides should be mandatory in local language to be distributed to the farmers and general consumers. Who will regulate this needs to be determined.
